MS-06C-6/R6 Zaku II Type C-6/R6

MS-06C-6/R6 Zaku II is the early-production Zaku II of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin: a Type C-6 airframe carrying the R6 equipment kit. Zeonic built it for Zeon's Space Strike Fleet, and Char Aznable's crew carried it aboard the Falmer.

What it does in the story

The Zaku IIs thrown into the war's first battles, the Clash of Loum among them, were mostly early Type C airframes later worked up into C-5 and C-6. The Origin puts Denim, Slender and Gene in these suits, and the C-6 itself was produced in limited numbers.

What makes it different

  • The R6 is a kit, not a separate frame. It covers two optional weapons: a 20 mm machine gun pod on the forearm and 30 mm Vulcan guns on both sides of the chest, and units carrying either had /R6 added to their model number.
  • The C-6 changed the chest and the hatch. The cockpit hatch was shaped differently from the Type C and the later Type F, with a laser gun on the left of the chest and, on the C-6, a Vulcan gun on the right.
  • It predates the F type. The C-6 sits before the Type F in the Zaku II line, so this is an early space frame rather than the later general-purpose machine.

1. What does the C-6/R6 designation actually mean?

C-6 is the airframe: an early space-use Zaku II with the revised cockpit hatch, a chest laser gun and a right-side Vulcan. /R6 marks the optional equipment fit, either the forearm machine gun pod, the chest Vulcans, or both.

2. Why does the C-6 have a gun in the chest?

The C-5 and C-6 mounted a laser gun on the left of the chest, and the C-6 added a Vulcan on the right. Both came with heavier armour, which is why it was built in limited numbers.

3. What weapons does it carry?

A shoulder shield, a Vulcan gun, a chest laser gun, a belt-fed machine gun and a heat hawk. Optional fits include the Bazooka Type A2 and the ASR-78 anti-ship rifle.
