Mizutsune

Mizutsune is a Leviathan-class monster introduced in Monster Hunter Generations as one of its four flagship monsters, and as the flagship of the Japanese-style village of Yukumo. Its Japanese name, Tamamitsune, draws on the words for bubble and snake.

What makes Mizutsune stand out

• It makes the ground slippery. Mizutsune secretes a soapy fluid that mixes with its fur and leaves trails of bubbles; a hunter caught in them suffers Bubbleblight and loses footing while it slides past.
• The movement reads as a dance. It closes with sliding, spiralling and whipping tail attacks, and fires pressurised jets of water at anything it cannot reach with its claws.
• The fins change colour. The pink fins along its head, back and tail flush deep red when it is enraged, a tell the games use before heavier attacks.
• A monster that keeps returning. After Generations it came back in Rise and in a Wilds title update, which is why its merchandise spans more than one generation.
