MBF-P01-Re Gundam Astray Gold Frame Amatsu

MBF-P01-ReAMATU Gundam Astray Gold Frame Amatsu is the rebuilt Gold Frame from the manga Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Astray (C.E. 71). Morgenröte rebuilt it at Onogoro Island for Rondo Gina Sahaku of Orb's Sahaku family, and it is the machine he flies while pushing Orb's position against both the Earth Alliance and PLANT.

What it does in the story

The rebuild followed heavy damage in the fight against Lowe Guele's Red Frame. Gina took the suit out at seventy percent completion to attack the Giga-Float mass driver and was driven off, and by 18 June it was at Victoria Base with two Sword Calamity units, where its share of the fighting helped the Alliance win the Third Battle of Victoria. Final work was done at Ame-no-Mihashira.

What makes it different

  • Its right arm belonged to the Blitz. Morgenröte recovered the severed right arm of the destroyed GAT-X207 Blitz Gundam and modified it to fit. The arm brings Phase Shift armour on that limb alone, plus the Trikeros offensive shield system.
  • Mirage Colloid hides the whole machine. The Blitz arm also handed Morgenröte the stealth technology, and the suit uses Mirage Colloid to disappear from sight and sensors. It can cloak the entire body or only chosen parts of it.
  • The backpack claws drain batteries. Maga no Ikutachi is a pair of claw-shaped blades that pull electrical energy out of an enemy suit's battery, shutting it down while recharging the Amatsu. The design was meant to work at range through colloid particles and was fitted incomplete, so it needs contact, which the stealth system exists to arrange.
  • Two spears fire out on cables. Magashira no Hoko shot lancers sit inside the claws and launch on cables, with Phase Shift armour on the tips that switches on at the moment of impact. The cables carry power to the lancer and pull it back, and Gina's handling lets him bend its flight path.

How big is it?

  • Overall height: 17.99 m according to Bandai's official spec
  • Mass: 73.2 t
  • 1/144: roughly 12.5 cm
  • 1/100: roughly 18 cm

Frequently asked questions

1. Is the Amatsu a different machine from the Gold Frame?

It is the same frame rebuilt: black armour, a new head with a secondary mono-eye sensor, and a new backpack. The base MBF-P01 Gold Frame is documented as its own machine.

2. What separates the incomplete and complete forms?

The incomplete suit keeps the Gold Frame's backpack and beam sabers and uses the Blitz's original Trikeros. The complete form adds Maga no Ikutachi and the two shot lancers, and swaps in the Trikeros Kai, whose beam saber now fires from the rifle barrel.

3. Why was the suit repainted black?

Stealth. The original white armour was painted black so the Mirage Colloid system would work better, which is also why the suit looks nothing like the gold machine it started as.

4. What is the Gáe Bulg on this suit?

A 350 mm rail bazooka the original Gold Frame took from Heliopolis. It was developed for the Duel Gundam, and the Amatsu can still carry it.
