Liu Bei Unicorn Gundam

Liu Bei Unicorn Gundam is the lead machine of SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden, the super-deformed Gundam project launched in 2019 for the franchise's 40th anniversary. He is modelled on the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam and leads Dragon's Watch in the Shu Area.

What it does in the story

The story opens with Liu Bei and two other Dragon's Watch members rescuing travellers from a Bug attack, and it is around then that he meets Guan Yu ν Gundam and Zhang Fei God Gundam. The three travel on together, and Liu Bei is the one who decides the group should try to save the world.

What makes it different

• His weapon changes between gun and blade. Liu Bei fights with a gun-blade that switches between firearm and blade modes. His signature attack fires and cuts in the same motion, so both hits land together.
• The awakened form is a different machine. Long Xian Liu Bei Unicorn Gundam is his awakened state, modelled on the Full Armor Unicorn Gundam. Every ability rises sharply, but he cannot trigger it himself and the operating time is extremely short; the animated version needs Haro.
• This is not the older Liu Bei Gundam. BB Senshi Sangokuden also cast Liu Bei, but as the RX-78-2. The two series share a Three Kingdoms framing with no narrative link, and Soketsuden recast the roles with Gundam-type suits.
• The kit line was built to cross-combine. SDSS-01 Liu Bei was the first release in the line, in March 2019. Its weapon extends with parts from SDSS-02 and SDSS-03, its armour with parts from SDSS-10, SDSS-13 and SDSS-20.
