Kyoko Sakura

Kyoko Sakura is a magical girl in Puella Magi Madoka Magica, the 2011 Shaft series written by Gen Urobuchi. She comes from Kazamino and is the daughter of a pastor whose family was excommunicated and nearly starved.

What makes Kyoko Sakura stand out

• A spear that keeps changing shape. Her weapon extends, splits into segments and ends in a ball on a chain that whips out and binds. Reach, restraint and a thrown strike come out of one weapon.
• The wish is why she fights alone. She contracted so that her father would gain followers. When the wish broke her family instead, she decided to spend her magic only on herself, and she tells Sayaka to stop spending hers on others.
• A veteran with an appetite. She has been a magical girl longer than anyone else in the series. She is rarely seen without food, and Takahiro Kishida gave her the fangs and ponytail to match. Aoki drew her in yellow first, then moved her to red.
