Krillin, written Kuririn in Japanese, is a martial artist in Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball. He arrives in chapter 25 of Weekly Shōnen Jump in May 1985 as a fellow student of Master Roshi.
What makes Krillin stand out
Built to offset Goku.
Toriyama added him at his editor's prompting, because Goku read as too plain. Krillin gave the series someone petty and mischievous to play the lead against.
No nose, six dots.
He has no visible nose and six moxibustion burn marks across his forehead, a reference to Shaolin practice. Both details have stayed since his introduction at thirteen.
The Kienzan.
His signature attack is the Kienzan, a disc of ki thrown like a blade, which he uses against Nappa and returns to across later arcs.
The uniform changes.
He starts in the yellow-and-orange clothes of the monastery, takes the orange gi Roshi gives him after the first tournament, and wears Saiyan armour through the Frieza arc.
