Ken Kaneki is the protagonist of Tokyo Ghoul, Sui Ishida's manga serialised in Weekly Young Jump from 2011 to 2014. An eighteen-year-old university freshman, he becomes a half-ghoul after receiving Rize Kamishiro's organs.
What makes Ken Kaneki stand out
One eye does not blink.
Ghouls show a kakugan, an eye with a red iris and black sclera. Kaneki has one, in his left eye, and covers it with a medical eye patch, even at work.
The kagune is Rize's.
The transplanted kakuhou gives him a rinkaku kagune: red tentacles released from his back, three at first, four after Yamori's torture.
The mask earns the alias.
His mask is a leather piece with an eye patch, a lipless mouth of bared teeth and bolts at the neck, a deliberately Frankenstein-like design. It gets him the name Eyepatch.
White hair, new name.
Torture under Yamori turns his hair white and his nails black. Later cannibalism produces a centipede-shaped kakuja and the alias Centipede.

Rinkaku: tentacle-like limbs released from his back.
3. Why does he wear an eye patch?
