The Iron Hands are a Loyalist Space Marine Chapter of Warhammer 40K and one of the original First Founding Legions, the Xth, raised from the gene-seed of their primarch Ferrus Manus. Their home world is Medusa, their armour is black and grey, and their war cry is “The flesh is weak!”
What it does in the story
The Xth Legion fought through the Great Crusade. When the Horus Heresy began, Ferrus Manus took his veterans to the Isstvan system, where the Iron Hands, Raven Guard and Salamanders were ambushed at the Drop Site Massacre and Ferrus Manus was beheaded there by Fulgrim. His body was never recovered, and the Chapter has refused to accept his death for ten thousand years. After the Second Founding the Legion was divided, and the Iron Hands kept the ten clans of Medusa for themselves.
What makes it different
-
Flesh is a fault.
The Chapter holds that human flesh is weak, subject to decay and temptation, and replaces it with bionics until little organic material remains. The practice sits close enough to the Cult Mechanicus that the two are hard to tell apart on the table.
-
The left hand first.
Initiation includes the removal of the left hand and its replacement with a bionic one, echoing Ferrus Manus, whose own hands were encased in living metal after a battle with a great metal serpent on Medusa.
-
Iron Fathers.
Half Tech-priest and half shaman, the Iron Fathers ministered to the clans of Medusa before the Legion ever reached them, and they still hold the Chapter's spiritual and technical authority.
-
Ten clans, no chapter master.
The Chapter is organised into Clan Companies rather than the companies of the Codex Astartes, each with its own mobile Land-Behemoth fortress. There is no Chapter Master; the Iron Council elects a war leader, and Kardan Stronos serves as its representative to outsiders.
What this collection covers
Every item is a JOYTOY 1:18 action figure: Intercessors Brother Gravak and Brother Ignar, Sergeants Bantus and Kalock, a Captain in Terminator Armour, Iron Father Feirros, and an Intercessor carrying bolt rifle, bolt pistol and chainsword. All of them share the same scale, so the squad poses together.
