IPP-66305 Hugo is a mass-production mobile suit from the second season of Mobile Suit Gundam IRON-BLOODED ORPHANS, in the Post Disaster era. It was developed mid-Calamity War as a high-mobility space machine, built on a Hexa Frame with very little armour. Surviving units are mostly in private hands.
What it does in the story
The Dawn Horizon Corps sends three Hugos into the space battle against Tekkadan: two flown by its executive twins, one by its leader, Sandoval Reuters. The twins lose their machines to Isurugi Camice and Julieta Juris; Mikazuki Augus takes Sandoval down and captures him.
What makes it different
It cannot really walk.
The feet have so little contact with the ground that the suit is unsuitable for walking under gravity. It is a space machine first.
The legs work like arms.
The Hexa Frame's reverse-jointed knees carry auxiliary motors at the back, raising the torque available to the leg claws.
The cockpit is in the head.
That placement makes bailing out easier, and the higher survival rate it brought is why so many Hugos outlived the war despite thin armour.
The light frame cuts both ways.
The claws can pin an enemy, but a captured machine with enough power can use the line to sweep the Hugo aside.
How big is it?
Overall height: 19.7 m
1/144: roughly 14 cm, the 2016 High Grade IRON-BLOODED ORPHANS kit

Frequently asked questions
1. Is the Hugo a Gundam?
No. It is a mass-production machine from the Calamity War, and the units in the series belong to a pirate group and later a security company. Nothing in its design or role links it to the Gundam frames.
2. Why is the Hugo so poorly armoured?
Armour was traded for mobility on purpose, and the trade is why most Hugos were shot down during the Calamity War. The head cockpit kept pilots alive at a higher rate than the armour would suggest.
3. What happens when a Hugo anchors something stronger than itself?
The claw holds, but the light Hexa Frame does not. An enemy with enough output can drag the line and throw the Hugo aside.
