GX-9901-DX Gundam Double X is the New United Nations Earth's flagship Gundam in After War Gundam X (1996, A.W. 0015). It was built in secret on the artificial island of Zonder Epta from the data and salvaged parts of Jamil Neate's Gundam X. Garrod Ran takes it during transport and flies it for the rest of the series.
What it does in the story
The Double X is stolen while it is being moved off Zonder Epta, and its first Twin Satellite Cannon shot wipes out the island that built it. Later it fires the same weapon from near-Earth space at the Space Revolutionary Army's Colony Laser near the Moon's orbit. Garrod otherwise fights with the buster rifle and the Hyper Beam Swords.
What makes it different
The cannon fires more than once per charge.
The Satellite System Mk-II replaces the Gundam X's two reflector pairs with three larger ones and adds radiator plates to the limbs. The result is a two-barrelled weapon that hits several times harder and can shoot again without a second microwave reception.
The barrels lock to the shoulders.
The Gundam X held its cannon in place with the manipulators. On the Double X the weapon fixes to a sensor mount at the shoulder, so both arms stay free while it is deployed.
It does not need a Newtype to switch the system on.
Because it carries Jamil's system data and unit code, the lunar microwave facility reads it as the older Gundam X and accepts the first registration without a Newtype at the controls. Garrod's old G-Controller works for the same reason.
It has four chest launchers, not two.
Several kit manuals list a pair of Breast Launchers, but the animation shows four: two above the chest intakes and two below. They are multi-purpose tubes that take different warheads.
How big is it?
Head height: 17.0 m, 7.8 t, per Bandai's official spec
1/144: roughly 11.8 cm
1/100: roughly 17.0 cm

Frequently asked questions
1. Does the Double X need a Newtype to use the Twin Satellite Cannon?
No. The lunar facility recognises the suit as Jamil Neate's Gundam X because the system data and machine code were carried over, so the first registration goes through with an ordinary pilot. Garrod Ran is not a Newtype and fires it repeatedly.
2. How is the Twin Satellite Cannon different from the Gundam X's?
Two barrels instead of one, a six-panel reflector instead of four, radiator plates on the limbs and far more energy capacity. It fires several times from one reception, and it mounts on the shoulders rather than being held.
3. Why does the Double X work with the Gundam X's G-Controller?
The G-Controller is the suit's ignition key and one of its control sticks, and the two systems were kept compatible because the Double X reused the older machine's data. That is how Garrod was able to start the suit and take it.
4. How many Breast Launchers does the Double X actually have?
Four: two above the chest intakes and two below, which is what the animation shows, even though a number of older kit manuals describe a single pair. They can be loaded with different warheads.
