CB-01 Gunfire Jr. is the opening kit of SD Gundam Chibi Senshi, a super-deformed Gunpla line Bandai ran from 1992 to 1994. It is not a mobile suit lifted from a Gundam animation: the Command branch began as original SD characters, and this is its first kit in the range.
What it does in the story
There is no episode to place it in; its part is the launch of the line. CB-01 came out in May 1992, the first Knight kit followed a month later, and the range ran to eleven regular kits and three multi-packs. In 1994 it was reissued in clear plastic inside the Crystal Gundam Commanders set.
What makes it different
It opens the Command branch.
Gunfire Jr. was the Command side's first kit, and the range was organised by cast branch rather than one run of the same characters.
The kits are far smaller than BB Senshi.
Chibi Senshi figures are well under the SD Gundam BB Senshi kits most builders know, and the line only ran from 1992 to 1994, so they are uncommon now.
Four SD series share one line.
The range pulled characters from Super G-ARMS, Musha, Knight and Gundlander at once, while the mobile suits underneath came from Stardust Memory and F91.
The clear version is a three-kit set.
The 1994 Crystal Gundam Commanders multi-pack reissues Gunfire Jr. with Captain Gundam FF Jr. and Star Gundam GP01 Jr., all three moulded in transparent plastic.
How big is it?
Kit height: about 45 mm, the average for the line, which is non-scale
