Gundam Tryon 3 is a Gunpla from Gundam Build Fighters Try, built by Minato Sakai for Tendaiji Academy and based on the ZZ Gundam. It is a three-in-one machine built from a liger, a manta ray and an eagle, named Riku Tryon, Umi Tryon and Sora Tryon, which dock into one assault unit.
What it does in the story
The three machines fight on their own first, then dock behind a barrier thrown up by the Tryon 3 emblem, and that barrier is what stops Team Try Fighters from breaking the combination. The match runs through the championship semi-final in episode 22, where the Tryon 3 is brought down by Yuuma Kousaka's Lightning Gundam.
What makes it different
-
Three pilots fly it, one fighter commands it.
Riku belongs to Minato, Umi to Haruto Satou and Sora to Hideo Isaka, but once the parts lock the rules count the result as one unit. A single fighter then has to handle a machine built from three others.
-
The docking barrier turns into armour.
Leftover particles from the combination settle as a coating over the finished suit. The coating thins as the particle reserve drops.
-
The sword is stowed inside the chest.
The handle of the Hyper Minovsky Chohoken appears from the Riku Tryon head on the chest, made from Sora's head, Umi's tail and the two beam sabers.
How big is it?
- Overall height: 19.86 m
- 1/144: roughly 14 cm at the 2015 High Grade size

Frequently asked questions
1. Do the three Tryon machines have to combine to fight?
No. Riku, Umi and Sora Tryon each carry their own weapons and can fight separately. The barrier exists because docking would otherwise be the obvious moment to attack.
2. What are the three animal machines called?
Riku Tryon is the liger and forms the back and chest, Umi Tryon is the manta ray and forms the upper torso and arms, and Sora Tryon is the eagle and forms the lower torso and legs.
3. Which kit represents the Tryon 3?
The 1/144 High Grade Build Fighters release from 2015. Its parts separate into the three animal machines, so both forms can be built from the same box.
