PF-78-3A Gundam Amazing Red Warrior

PF-78-3A Gundam Amazing Red Warrior is Meijin Kawaguchi's own Gunpla in Gundam Build Fighters Try (2014). He built it as a custom of the PF-78-3 Perfect Gundam III from the Plamo-Kyoshiro manga, and it doubles as a tribute to Takeshi Iori, who had used the Perfect Gundam.

What it does in the story

The suit appears in episodes 11 and 12 and is built for speed, with extra thrust and flexible verniers above the shoulder armour. The weapon mount on the left of the backpack is re-loaded for whichever opponent it faces.

What makes it different

  • The backpack mount is a swap point. The fitting accepts the hyper bazooka, the handgun, the short rifle or the two-part long rifle, so the loadout changes with the fight.
  • The bazooka can become a beam weapon. Its barrel extends and it can be fired without gripping it. Swapping the ammunition converts it to a beam bazooka, though that has to be done before the fight.
  • Missile pods hide behind the chest vents. Four three-tube pods are carried, two behind the chest vents which open to expose them and two in the front skirt which slide down. The missiles home, but their warheads are light.

How big is it?

  • Overall height: 18.0 m according to Bandai's official spec
  • 1/144: roughly 12.5 cm
  • 1/100: roughly 18 cm

2. Which mobile suit is it based on?

The PF-78-3 Perfect Gundam III, called the Red Warrior, from the Plamo-Kyoshiro manga. Kawaguchi's version is a full custom of that design.
