GN-008 Seravee Gundam

GN-008 Seravee Gundam is the artillery machine Tieria Erde flies in Mobile Suit Gundam 00 season two (2008, A.D. 2312), the successor to the GN-005 Virtue. It was the first of the organisation's new Gundams to go into combat that year.

What it does in the story

Its job in a formation is to remove large things: a platoon of mobile suits, a fleet, a fortified position. On its first sortie it fought GN-XIIIs beside the 00 and the Arios, and its four GN Cannons finished the two machines the other suits had already damaged. At the Innovators' mothership, Seravee GNHW/B held its GN Field over the Cherudim while that suit shot at the gun turrets.

What makes it different

  • Its GN Drive travels in the backpack. The drive is installed in the Seraphim Gundam docked to Seravee's back, so the two suits share one reactor. Once the Seraphim separates, Seravee runs on its condensers and cannot start Trans-Am unless the system was already running when they split.
  • The back opens into a face. Face Burst Mode unfolds the backpack to expose a large Gundam face and raises particle emission sharply, with extra control antennas deploying from the same section to manage the output.
  • It defends itself with vents, not generators. Where the Virtue carried dedicated GN Field generators, this suit has particle generators in the side skirt armour with vents underneath them. The field can be thrown over a machine behind it as well as over itself.
  • Four cannons, six sabers, two bazookas. The GN Cannons sit on the backpack and the knees, and the six GN Beam Sabers are stored in the forearms and inside those cannons. The two GN Bazooka IIs combine with the cannons into named attacks such as Hyper Burst.

How big is it?

  • Head height: 18.2 m according to Bandai's official spec
  • Weight: 67.2 t empty
  • 1/144: roughly 12.6 cm
  • 1/100: roughly 18.2 cm

Frequently asked questions

1. Where is the Seravee's GN Drive?

Inside the Seraphim Gundam that forms its backpack. That is why Seravee loses its power source when the two separate, and why it can only keep Trans-Am running if the system was activated before the split.

2. What is the face on its back?

Face Burst Mode. The backpack unfolds, a large Gundam face is exposed and particle output climbs, helped by additional control antennas that deploy from the same assembly.

3. Does it have a GN Field like the Virtue?

It has the field but not the dedicated generators. The particle generators are built into the side skirt armour with vents on the underside, and the field can be stretched to cover another Gundam.

4. Are the Seravee and the Seraphim one machine or two?

Two. The Seraphim is a separate mobile suit that spends most of its time as Seravee's backpack, and it can detach and fight on its own using the GN Drive it carries.
