GN-006 Cherudim Gundam

GN-006 Cherudim Gundam is Celestial Being's long-range machine in Mobile Suit Gundam 00 season two (2008, A.D. 2312) and the successor to the GN-002 Dynames. It is flown by Lockon Stratos, Lyle Dylandy, runs on a GN Drive and wears an E-Carbon frame.

What it does in the story

Its work is cover. When an A-Laws underwater mobile armour flooded the Ptolemy 2's hangars, Lockon put close-range fire on it to pull it away from the ship. Later, with every particle aboard routed to propulsion to outrun the first Memento Mori, Cherudim went out in Trans-Am and held the defence alone with its GN Shield Bits while the ship slid out of the beam's path.

What makes it different

  • The precision sensor hides under a red crystal cover. Entering Sniper Mode lifts the cover on the forehead and exposes the head sensor built for precision shooting. The body is laid out to protect that sensor, and particle dispersal can be halted during a shot, because a dense particle cloud would spoil the aim.
  • Its shield is nine flying plates. The GN Shield Bits work like the remote weapons carried by other suits, each throwing up a GN Field on its own surface. All nine are run by the Haro in the cockpit rather than by the pilot.
  • The rifle becomes a shoulder mount. Out of the hands, the GN Sniper Rifle II sits on the right shoulder in Triple Vulcan Mode. Under Trans-Am its range extends beyond that of the GN Mega Launcher carried by the Innovators' Gadessa.
  • Trans-Am can be switched off early. The suit was designed around the system and, unlike the previous generation, can leave Trans-Am whenever the pilot chooses instead of running until the particles are gone. The Holoscreen, a sighting panel that unfolds from the backpack, appears only in that state.

How big is it?

  • Head height: 18.0 m according to Bandai's official spec
  • Weight: 58.9 t empty
  • 1/144: roughly 12.5 cm
  • 1/100: roughly 18 cm

Frequently asked questions

1. Who controls the GN Shield Bits?

The Haro docked on the right side of the cockpit. It deploys them and switches them into Assault Mode on Lockon's instruction, and it also handles fire control and warns him when something is closing in.

2. Why does the Cherudim open its forehead to shoot?

The red crystalline cover hides the precision sensor used in Sniper Mode. With it raised, the pilot can use the rifle-shaped scope built into the cockpit together with the Holoscreen for a long shot.

3. How does it differ from the Dynames it replaces?

Attack power, accuracy and the other basic figures are all higher, and the biggest changes were to the melee and defensive equipment. It keeps the Sniper Mode and the Haro support that defined the earlier suit.

4. What is the Cherudim Gundam SAGA?

GN-006/SA Cherudim Gundam SAGA is a separate configuration of the same machine built for getting inside a base rather than shooting from outside one, and it was assigned to Celestial Being's support team Fereshte.
