GN-0000 00 Gundam

GN-0000 00 Gundam — 'Double-Oh' — is Celestial Being's lead machine in the second season of Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (2008, A.D. 2312). It was built for Setsuna F. Seiei as the successor to the Gundam Exia, and it is the first mobile suit to carry the Twin Drive System: two original GN Drives working as one.

What it does in the story

The 00 appears as Celestial Being comes back after four years of silence. Its Twin Drive will not settle on its own — the drives are taken from the Exia and the 0 Gundam, the closest-matched pair of the five in existence, and Setsuna has to force the system into range with a short Trans-Am burst. When he uses Trans-Am again against the Ahead Sakigake, both drives overload and the system is pulled from use until the 0 Raiser can be docked. The 00 loses both GN Drives in the final battle and is rebuilt around a pair of large GN Condensers.

What makes it different

• Two drives square the output. Synchronising two GN Drives does not double the GN particle output, it squares it. The theory came from Celestial Being's founder, Aeolia Schenberg, and sat hidden inside the quantum processing system Veda until it was released along with the Trans-Am System.
• The drives hang off the shoulders. Each GN Drive sits on a drive base carried by a drive arm from the backpack, and the bases rotate the drives to the front or the back. Turned forward, the drives work as the suit's main thrusters or throw up a GN Field; the layout follows data from the Gundam Rasiel's shoulder verniers.
• The antennas moved to the forehead. Earlier Celestial Being Gundams carried their clavicle antennas on the torso. The 00 miniaturised them into a pair of yellow forehead antennas to keep them clear of the moving drives, and added a second pair on the chest to support them.
• One sword, three modes. The GN Sword II changes between a physical sword that can pierce a GN Field, a beam saber and a rifle without the pause of swapping weapons. The pair can also be joined grip to grip as a Twin Lance with blades at both ends.

How big is it?

• Head height: 18.3 m according to Bandai's official spec, with a base weight of 54.9 t
• 1/144: roughly 12.7 cm, which covers the HG 00 Gundam
• 1/100: roughly 18.3 cm for the Master Grade release
