GF13-017NJII God Gundam

GF13-017NJII God Gundam is Neo Japan's second Mobile Fighter in the 13th Gundam Fight, flown by Domon Kasshu in Mobile Fighter G Gundam (1994, Future Century 60). Dr. Mikamura developed it almost single-handedly as the successor to the Shining Gundam, and it is built around Domon's own fighting style.

What it does in the story

Neo Japan's plan was to run the preliminaries with the Shining Gundam and bring the God Gundam out for the finals, but the Devil Gundam's appearance in the Guyana Highlands wrecks that schedule. Rain Mikamura moves the Shining Gundam's battle data across with an experimental brainwave communicator, and Domon takes the new machine into the finals. Its run ends with the title of Gundam of Gundams and the last fight in space.

What makes it different

• Normal Mode already outclasses the Shining Gundam's Super Mode. Bandai's material puts the God Gundam above the Shining Gundam's powered-up state before any of its own enhancement is switched on. The step beyond that is Hyper Mode, a separate state the suit enters on top of Normal Mode.
• The chest refines energy the way a body refines breath. The Energy Multiplier System in the torso processes energy in a manner compared to qi. When Domon is at the controls the King of Heart emblem appears on the chest, and the unit opens up once Hyper Mode engages.
• Six wings on the back are named after a sutra. The Core Lander's six wings are called Dream, Illusion, Bubble, Shadow, Dew and Lightning, taken from a passage in the Diamond Sutra. With the two short head antennas they generate the machine's magnetic field, and in Hyper Mode the wings deploy and a ring of light forms behind the suit.
• The forearm armour slides over the hand. For the Bakunetsu God Finger the forearm armour slides forward into an armoured gauntlet so the energy can be controlled, and the God Finger Protectors open into claws. The two beam swords on the side armour, the God Slash, carry enough output to cut Gundarium alloy.
