GF13-009NF Gundam Rose

GF13-009NF Gundam Rose is Neo France's Mobile Fighter in the 13th Gundam Fight in Mobile Fighter G Gundam (1994–1995, Future Century 60). Its pilot is George de Sand, a fencer, and the machine is drawn as a knight of the old French court: Kunio Okawara designed the head on a Napoleon image.

What it does in the story

George wins the Neo France seat at Versailles when the king disqualifies Jean-Pierre Mirabeau for hiding behind the crowd, and the revenge Mirabeau takes that day becomes the Tragedy of Versailles. The Rose fights Domon to no result at the Eiffel Tower, loses to the John Bull Gundam in Chapman's fog, is infected with DG cells in Shinjuku, and reaches the battle royale on Lantau Island, where George spends his last Rose Bits to set up Chibodee's shot.

What makes it different

  • The cape is a weapon bay. The shield covering the left shoulder unfolds into a cape and releases the Rose Bits, rose-shaped remote weapons driven by the pilot's brainwaves. Each bit carries a single beam gun.
  • The bits have two shapes. A bud form that stores them and moves them at speed, and a bloom form they open into to attack. They can also be driven into armour and detonated rather than shot.
  • The saber is half sword, half beam. The Chevalier Beam Saber is a solid blade wrapped in a beam edge when live, fitted with a cup guard, and George uses it the way he fences, thrusting at gaps rather than cutting. It is the suit's main weapon, not a backup.
  • One bit destroyed can break the whole attack. The Rose Screamer rings an opponent and holds them inside a charged field. Destroy a single bit, though, and the others detonate with it, so the formation collapses if it is disturbed at the right point.

How big is it?

  • Overall height: 16.2 m, with a dry weight of 13.1 t
  • 1/144: roughly 11 cm, the only scale the suit has been released in

Frequently asked questions

1. Why does the Gundam Rose fight with a sword?

Because George fences. The Chevalier saber copies a foil down to the guard, and his style is built on the thrust, which is what the suit's speed and sensor fit are tuned to support.

2. How many Rose Bits does it carry?

The count is never given. The material describes dozens in the shoulder cape and treats the supply as effectively unlimited until a fight runs long, and most of them are spent in the Lantau battle royale.

3. What is the Rose Hurricane?

A technique George develops while training in the Guiana Highlands. Instead of ringing a target, the bits circle it in a cyclone, and the vortex that forms locks an opponent in place rather than simply shooting at them.

4. Which Gundam Rose kits exist?

Two 1/144 kits from 1994 and 1995, the second of them a Hyper Mode version, and a 1/144 HGFC released as a P-Bandai exclusive in 2023.
