Geralt of Rivia

Geralt of Rivia is the protagonist of Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher books, the Polish stories and novels that began in the late 1980s and reached English in 2007. He is a witcher: a mutated, chemically hardened monster hunter trained at Kaer Morhen, the keep of the Wolf School.

What makes Geralt of Rivia stand out

• The name is a title he earned. He was not born in Rivia. Vesemir told him a surname would make clients trust him, so he took one, and Queen Meve of Lyria and Rivia later knighted him, which made the title real.
• The mutations took his colour. The Trial of the Grasses killed most of the boys put through it. Geralt survived, and the mutagens that followed stripped the pigment from his hair and skin, which is why the Elder Speech name for him, Gwynbleidd, means White Wolf.
• A working kit, not a knight's. Silver for monsters and steel for people is the rule of the trade, and his signs cover force, fire, binding and deflection. Everything he carries is there to finish a contract.

What this collection covers
