GAT-X252 Forbidden Gundam is a late GAT-X prototype from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED (2002, C.E. 71), one of a trio commissioned by Muruta Azrael's conglomerate and flown by Biological CPUs. Shani Andras pilots it, and its brief is raiding enemy bases.
What it does in the story
It debuts at the Battle of Orb alongside the Calamity and the Raider, and the trio fight the Freedom and the Justice to a standstill. Afterwards they are posted to the Dominion and taken to Jachin Due for the war's last battle, where the Duel Gundam destroys the Forbidden.
What makes it different
Its shields bend beams instead of stopping them.
The two large shields carry the Geschmeidig Panzer, a colloid-particle system that turns an incoming beam aside before it reaches the hull. The shields carry Trans-Phase armour of their own, so shells and blades are stopped too, and the same particles work as propulsion underwater.
The plasma beam is steered, not aimed.
Magnetic field generators on the two backpack railguns shape a field between them and use it to bend the Hresvelgr's beam in flight, so the shot arrives off the line the target was watching.
Two weapons exist in only one form.
The Eckzahn railguns and the Hresvelgr sit on the backpack, which flips over the head to make the High-Speed Assault Form, so neither can fire in the suit's normal shape. What is left then is the scythe, forearm machine guns and head CIWS.

Frequently asked questions
1. How does the Forbidden survive beam weapons?
Not with Phase Shift. The Panzer deflects beam fire away from the suit, making it close to immune at range. Close-in beam blades still work: the Justice's boomerang damages a shield.
2. Can the Forbidden fight underwater?
Yes, though it was not designed as an aquatic machine. The Panzer system doubles as underwater propulsion, and the Alliance later built the GAT-X255 Forbidden Blue on the same basis.
3. Why can't its railguns fire in mobile suit mode?
Because they are mounted on the backpack flight unit and only bear on a target once it has flipped over the head. The Hresvelgr has the same restriction.
4. Which kits of the Forbidden exist?
It has been kitted in 1/144 twice, as the 2003 original release and an HGSEED kit, then again in the 2012 HGSEED remaster and the 2023 1/100 Full Mechanics.
