GAT-X103AP Verde Buster Gundam is the artillery machine of Phantom Pain's three-suit team in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED C.E. 73: STARGAZER (2006, C.E. 73), flown by Shams Couza. It is a second Buster Gundam rebuilt under the Actaeon Project to stand behind the Strike Noir and the Blu Duel.
What it does in the story
It defends the land battleship Bonaparte against ZAFT, and later sails with the Nana Buluku in the raid on the DSSD station. Shams keeps firing after the order to withdraw, shooting on until the suit's Phase Shift cuts out.
What makes it different
The two shoulder cannons no longer dock together.
The 94 mm high-energy beam cannon and the 350 mm gun launcher are fixed to the left and right shoulders, which ends the Buster's trick of joining the barrels for a shotgun blast or a sniper shot.
A pair of bayonet rifles replaces the lost flexibility.
Two M9009B composite bayonet beam rifles hang on the hips; the blade under each muzzle unfolds for close work, generating a field that drives through armour short of Phase Shift. Joined side by side they form a twin cannon, the blade's field generator steering the beam.
Fire control had to be rebuilt to keep up.
Four heavy weapons plus a revised sensor suite meant new fire control, and the design credits the sensors for the gain in accuracy.

Frequently asked questions
1. How is the Verde Buster different from the Buster Gundam?
The beam cannon and gun launcher are locked to the shoulders rather than carried and joined, so the original's combined firing modes are gone. In their place it gains two bayonet beam rifles, a face guard and newer fire control.
2. Can the two bayonet rifles be joined?
Yes, side by side in a twin cannon mode. Their bayonet field generators guide the beam, extending its reach, and the resulting shot is described as heavy enough to badly damage a space station.
3. Why put a bayonet on a beam rifle?
Because fixing the cannons to the shoulders cost the suit its close-range answer. The folding blade and its force field cover that gap.
4. Which kits of the Verde Buster exist?
It was kitted in 1/144 as an HGSEED kit in 2006, with a BB Senshi release following in 2007.
