Gaia commands the Black Tri-Stars, the Principality of Zeon's three-man mobile suit team in Mobile Suit Gundam, debuting in the twenty-fourth episode, "Black Tri-Star", in U.C. 0079. MegaHouse has him as G.M.G. Collection 13 — a 1/18 scale, fully articulated figure of about 10 cm.
What it does in the story
He is the senior man of the three, a Mobile Training Battalion graduate from the 2nd Squadron's D Squad, which flew Zaku I machines in dark sea blue before the team existed. He was a second lieutenant by Loum, where the Tri-Stars put five Federation battleships on their record; a black, purple and grey repaint followed once the team was upgraded.
What makes it different
-
The team's set piece is a three-suit trap.
The Jet Stream Attack closes on a line so that the approach reads as a single machine; a defender who dodges the lead attacker has already committed to a direction, and the two behind are waiting on it. On the Dom his opening shot is the scattering beam cannon, blinding the target before the other two move in.
-
His suit changes at every stage of the war.
He starts on a Zaku I, takes the Zaku II early type for Loum, the commander type after the honours, then the high mobility type, and finally a Dom from Colonel M'Quve for the October campaign on Earth.
