FA-010A FAZZ

FA-010A FAZZ — pronounced "fahts" — is the heavy-assault testbed from Gundam Sentinel (U.C. 0088), built by Anaheim Electronics to gather data for the Full Armor ZZ. It is not that machine: it is a separate, non-transforming airframe, numbered FA-010A against the FA-010S. Three were built for Task Force Alpha as fire-support units.

What it does in the story

The three units went to Task Force Alpha for the campaign against the New Desides, where their job was to sit behind the line and keep the hyper mega cannon working. A full-power burst needs a long recharge, so the three took turns to hold a continuous barrage, outranging the carrier Pegasus III's beam cannons.

What makes it different

• It cannot transform, and that was the point. The transformation, the combination mechanism and the Core Block System were left out to keep costs down. The trade-off is timing: the first FAZZ was finished almost half a year before the ZZ Gundam.
• Two of its mega cannons are dummies. The forehead and torso-front mega cannons are placeholders, fitted only to check balance. The real long-range weapon is the hand-held hyper mega cannon, as long as the suit and fed from the generator.
• The hyper mega cannon overheats. At full power it throws a 79.8 MW beam, and about ten shots is the limit before the barrel overheats. Past that the computer puts the risk of damaging the cannon near ninety per cent.
• It carries no melee weapon at all. Vulcan guns, missile racks, back beam cannons, a double beam rifle and the hyper mega cannon are the whole list, with nothing for close quarters.
