EB-05s Schwalbe Graze

EB-05s Schwalbe Graze is the commander-grade trial machine from Mobile Suit Gundam IRON-BLOODED ORPHANS (Post Disaster 323), developed by Gjallarhorn during the Graze's prototype stage. It lost the competition to become the standard suit on cost, so only a few were built, each tuned to a named pilot. The purple machine is Gaelio Bauduin's, with a lance in its right arm.

What it does in the story

Gaelio brings it out when Coral Conrad's Graze team cannot stop Tekkadan's Gundam Barbatos, and McGillis Fareed's Schwalbe joins him to press the Gundam until the Isaribi extracts it. Gaelio later passes it to Ein Dalton when he moves to the Gundam Kimaris, and the lance stays behind.

What makes it different

  • The flight unit changes the machine. A pack on the back uses the same technology as interplanetary battleship thrusters and gives the suit atmospheric flight. It also makes the machine hard to handle.
  • It trades stability for output. Lightened equipment and boosters push mobility up, but the suit is unsteady at low output and demands a skilled pilot. Above that band it has a higher ceiling than the Graze.
  • Every airframe is built around one person. Schwalbes went to commanders and aces with fixed assignments, each customised to its pilot's preferences. That is why the machines differ visibly.

How big is it?

  • Height: 18.1 m per Bandai's official spec, at 32.5 t empty
  • 1/144: roughly 13 cm
  • 1/100: roughly 18 cm

Frequently asked questions

1. What is the difference between the Schwalbe Graze and the Graze?

They share the same frame, but the Schwalbe was built for output and mobility while the Graze was built for versatility and cost. Gjallarhorn took the Graze.

2. Does every Schwalbe Graze carry the lance?

No. The 16.5 m lance with its short rifle was Gaelio's own fitting, meant for single-point penetration of Nanolaminate Armor. It stayed with him.

3. Why were so few Schwalbe Grazes built?

Gjallarhorn dropped it as a standard machine on development and operating cost. What remained were commander units, assigned to individual pilots.

4. Which machine did Gaelio move to afterwards?

He moved to the Gundam Kimaris and passed this Schwalbe to Ein Dalton. McGillis handed his own to Isurugi Camice.
