Cao Cao Wing Gundam

Cao Cao Wing Gundam is a lead of SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden, the project launched in March 2019 for Gundam's 40th anniversary that retells Romance of the Three Kingdoms with Gundam designs. It is a separate continuity from BB Senshi Sangokuden, with most of the cast recast on different suits — Liu Bei is the Unicorn Gundam here. Cao Cao heads the Wei Area as chief executive of Blue Wing Corporation.

What it does in the story

Cao Cao runs the Wei Area while the world inside the walls depends on Trinity, an energy supply running short, and he is written as a leader worried by that shortage rather than a simple antagonist. The Soshoki manga follows him, and he takes the Tian Ba form for the final battle.

What makes it different

• This is not the 2007 Sangokuden line. Sangoku Soketsuden shares a source novel with BB Senshi Sangokuden but no story, and recasts most characters on different machines. Cao Cao is a Wing Gundam here.
• The kits share one joint runner. Instead of polycaps the line uses a universal joint runner, the A plate, which adds torso flex, hinged knees and a segmented skirt. It is not an inner frame like SD Cross Silhouette.
• SDSS-04 takes parts from two later kits. The kit is number 04 in the line, released in April 2019, and can be expanded with parts from kits 15 and 17. The base kit builds on its own.
• The moulds are not Japanese. The kits are made in China rather than Japan, and in Japan they were Gundam Base Tokyo exclusives until regular retail in January 2021.
