BG-011B Build Burning Gundam

BG-011B Build Burning Gundam is Sei Iori's melee Gunpla in Gundam Build Fighters Try (2014–15), developed from the SB-011 Star Burning Gundam and flown by Sekai Kamiki. Sei built it for Reiji and the 11th Gunpla Battle World Championship, then reworked it afterwards and hid it inside the trophy the two of them had won. Sekai finds it there, disguised as a Dom, and it becomes the Try Fighters' lead machine.

What it does in the story

Sekai's first sortie comes straight out of the trophy: Yuuma Kousaka's Lightning Gundam shoots the Dom shell apart and the Build Burning walks out of the wreckage to close the distance on it. From then on it is the unit Sekai uses to fight with the Jigen Haoh School's martial arts rather than with a gun, and it stays his machine as the team works through the tournament.

What makes it different

  • It fights with a martial art, not a loadout. The suit is built for close combat and Sekai flies it as an extension of the Jigen Haoh School's forms, with individual punches and kicks named after them. Its only firearm is a beam spray gun borrowed from the RGM-79 GM.
  • The transparent parts store particles. Blue clear sections on the collarbones, forearms and lower legs hold Plavsky Particles for later release, an application of the Star Build Strike's RG System. More of the same parts sit under the armour.
  • Auto-suggestion more than triples its output. When Sekai merges his senses with the model the particles turn orange, the suit gains fire effects and its performance climbs past three times normal. Damage to the Gunpla then lands on his body instead.
  • A bigger fist docks onto the hand. The Winning Knuckle is a large hand made from the Winning Gundam's torso that clips over the Build Burning's fist. If it is lost, the Winning Gundam's Core Fighter can be fitted on in its place.

1. Why does the Build Burning have no shield?

It uses its elbow armour instead, a trick the series calls pinpoint shield defence, and leans on movement rather than a plate. The design keeps the arms free for the martial arts it is built around.

2. Does it have any ranged weapons?

One beam spray gun, originally carried by the RGM-79 GM. Sekai uses it for target practice in a team exercise and hits nothing, which is the show's way of saying the suit is not meant to shoot.

3. What happens to Sekai when he assimilates with it?

He and the model share senses for as long as his willpower holds. The particles turn orange, the suit can use fire, its thrust becomes particle emission, and any damage the Gunpla takes is reflected in his body.

4. Was the Build Burning built for Sekai?

No. Sei built it for Reiji and the 11th championship, improved it after that, and hid it inside his trophy before graduating. Sekai only found it by examining the trophy.
