AV-98 Ingram Unit 1 is the patrol Labor assigned to Noa Izumi in Mobile Police Patlabor, the 1988 series from Headgear. Unit 1 is one of three Type-98 AV Ingrams issued to the Tokyo police's Special Vehicles Section 2, Division 2.
What it does in the story
Division 2 handles Labor accidents, thefts and, in the films, terrorism. Unit 2 goes to the hot-headed gunner and Unit 3 is a data-collection spare that keeps losing parts to the other two, so Unit 1 is the one that turns out.
What makes it different
-
Noa gave it a name.
In the television series Noa Izumi calls Unit 1 Alphonse, and the nickname outlasts the designation. The show treats the machine as a partner, not a fleet vehicle.
-
A police build, not a military one.
The loadout is a 37 mm revolver cannon, a stun baton and a shield, and the silhouette is deliberately human so a patrol can end an incident without a body count.
-
Every kit reads Unit 1 differently.
Bandai's Master Grade is 1/35 military scale with a lifting chest, Kotobukiya's D-Style is super-deformed, and Good Smile's MODEROID is a compact snap-fit build.
What this collection covers
Bandai's Master Grade kit is the large build, MODEROID the compact one across two runs. D-Style shrinks the machine, Kaiyodo's ARTPLA kit casts the Reactive Armor plating, and a PLAMAX bust pairs Noa with her Labor.
