ASW-G-XX Gundam Vidar

ASW-G-XX Gundam Vidar is a Gjallarhorn machine from the second season of Mobile Suit Gundam IRON-BLOODED ORPHANS (2016–2017, Post Disaster 325). It is the wrecked ASW-G-66 Gundam Kimaris Trooper, recovered in secret by the Arianrhod Fleet and rebuilt to hide what it is. Gaelio Bauduin, believed dead, flies it under the alias Vidar.

What it does in the story

Fleet commander Rustal Elion orders the rebuild and chief technical officer Yamazin Toka leads it, and the job runs long enough that a prototype, the ASW-G-XK XK, tests the systems first. The Vidar opens against rebels in the Oceanian Federation's space colonies, then ships to Mars to investigate the mobile armour Hashmal. It is flying against McGillis Fareed's coup when Gaelio drops the alias and challenges him.

What makes it different

  • A third reactor exists to disguise it. The extra Ahab Reactor in the backpack generates a new Ahab Wave frequency, so scanners log the suit as Gjallarhorn Unit No. 21 instead of a Gundam Frame. It adds no performance: the two frame reactors already outproduce what the suit needs.
  • Its sword blades are disposable bombs. The Burst Saber's blade detaches from the hilt to act as a napalm-based explosive, or to shed a blade that has been caught. Replacements ride in the side armour, three to a side, and the armour slides back to present the next one.
  • The feet are weapons. Hunter's Edge puts two extendable blades in each foot, one at the tip and one at the heel. They are blunt rather than sharp but generate enough force to pierce Nanolaminate Armour, and they are used with kicks and stomps.
  • The cockpit has no Alaya-Vijnana connectors. Gjallarhorn suits do not fit them, so the Vidar runs the Alaya-Vijnana type E instead: a pseudo system built on what remained of Ein Dalton, giving the human-machine link without the processing burden. Gaelio switches it on only against opponents he cannot take alone.

How big is it?

  • Overall height: 18.5 m, with an empty weight of 30.9 t, according to Bandai's official spec
  • 1/144: roughly 12.8 cm
  • 1/100: roughly 18.5 cm

Frequently asked questions

1. Is the Gundam Vidar the same machine as the Kimaris?

Yes. It is the Kimaris Trooper, recovered after Edmonton and overhauled, with damaged frame parts replaced and the armour reshaped so the silhouette no longer matches. It is converted once more into the Kimaris Vidar later on.

2. What does the third Ahab Reactor actually do?

It changes the suit's Ahab Wave signature so Gjallarhorn scanners record it as Unit No. 21. It supplies no useful power, because the two reactors in the frame already produce more than the machine can use.

3. What is the Alaya-Vijnana type E?

A pseudo version of the Alaya-Vijnana System built on Ein Dalton's remaining brain and his implant, run as a support system. It provides the integration without the processing risk the true system imposes.

4. Why were the Vidar's weapons all replaced?

The rebuild stripped anything that would identify the Kimaris, so the lance and heavy gear went and lighter weapons came in: a Burst Saber as the main arm, handguns in the front skirt armour, a 110mm rifle on the side armour.
