AMX-009 Dreissen is Neo Zeon's mass-produced heavy mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ (1986–1987, U.C. 0088). It was drawn from Rick Dom II data but built for close-quarters ground combat, and survivors are still in service with the Sleeves in U.C. 0096.
What it does in the story
It first appears aboard a Sadalahn-class battleship, and Rakan Dahkaran, commander of the Mindra, flies one when the AEUG tries to break up Neo Zeon's invasion of Earth. Rakan's Dreissen takes on Judau Ashta's ZZ Gundam and holds its own in close combat before the Gundam's firepower settles the fight. Late in the war Glemy Toto's faction fields a large number of them, repainted grey.
What makes it different
Its ancestor is the Dom, not the Zaku.
The design started from Rick Dom II data but behaves like the older MS-09B Dom: fast ground combat, now with close quarters as the purpose. New materials make it lighter than the Dom despite being larger.
Each forearm is a triple beam cannon.
Three barrels per arm at 2.8 MW per beam, with a cover that slides up and an energy cap per barrel. Fire one barrel for rate, or all three together for a heavier beam.
The tri-blades steer themselves.
Each suit carries three, and every blade has three fast-spinning cutters plus a single vernier underneath that pushes it toward the target. They ride on the backpack when not in use.
Lancer and tomahawk combine into a naginata.
The beam lancer (1.7 MW) and the beam tomahawk (0.92 MW) join into one long weapon, and the axe blade's output rises when the two are connected.
How big is it?
Overall height: 23.4 m; the head sits at 22.0 m, according to Bandai's official spec
1/144: roughly 16 cm

Frequently asked questions
1. Is the Dreissen a Dom variant?
No. It is a Neo Zeon AMX design, not a Zeon Dom. Its development data came from the Rick Dom II and its role from the Dom, but the frame, armour and weapons are new.
2. What changed on the Sleeves version?
The exposed power cables on the forearms were moved inside the arms and the cannons' output was raised. The tri-blade mounts can also be swapped for holsters carrying a heat saber or a new giant bazooka.
3. Why does a heavy suit carry throwing weapons?
The tri-blades give it a ranged option that does not need the arms pointed at a target, which suits a machine built to close in. The vernier on each blade does the steering.
