AMX-003 Gaza C

AMX-003 (MMT-1) Gaza-C is Axis Zeon's mass-produced transformable mobile suit from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (1985–1986, U.C. 0087). It is the first Gaza variant built in numbers, and the type stays in service long enough for the Sleeves to field repainted examples in U.C. 0096.

What it does in the story

Over a hundred Gaza-Cs go into action when the Axis asteroid reaches the Earth Sphere during the Gryps Conflict, and the type carries on as a Neo Zeon line machine into the First Neo Zeon War, by which point roughly 250 have been built. Haman Karn, Yazan Gable, Chara Soon and Glemy Toto all appear among its pilots.

What makes it different

  • It falls apart after a few transformations. The frame was flimsy enough that a Gaza-C could come apart after only a few uses of its transformation system, and the average service life was three combat missions. Later Gaza models fixed this.
  • Much of the suit is recycled. Axis had limited manufacturing capacity, so many parts came from the older Gaza-A and Gaza-B construction machines. The mix still gave a good balance of speed, agility and firepower for what it cost.
  • The Knuckle Buster hits harder than a beam rifle. Mounted under the right chest and fed by the generator, it rates 6.7 MW and links to the chest sensor for aiming. The right hand braces it in mobile suit mode, and it works in both modes.
  • The cockpit rides in the head. The pilot sits in a panoramic monitor and linear seat inside the head, which is what lets the body fold down into cruise form: 22.5 m in mobile suit mode becomes 10.9 m.

1. What is the difference between the Gaza-C and the Gaza-D?

The Gaza-C is the first mass-produced machine in the line. The AMX-006 Gaza-D is a newer design Neo Zeon developed from the same idea and began deploying alongside it during the First Neo Zeon War.

2. Why did the Gaza-C have such a short service life?

Its construction was thin and partly recycled, so repeated transformation wore the frame out. Three missions was the average before a unit was lost or scrapped.

3. Can it fight in both of its modes?

Yes. The Knuckle Buster works in either shape. The backpack beam guns are mainly for mobile armour mode, where they cannot change their firing angle, and the feet double as leg claws.
