AMS-129 Geara Zulu

AMS-129 Geara Zulu is the standard mobile suit of the Sleeves, the Neo Zeon remnants of Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn (2010–2014, U.C. 0096). Anaheim Electronics drew it up as the Geara Doga's successor for Char Aznable's army, but the Second Neo Zeon War ended before production began and the project was shelved. The Sleeves revived it years later as a symbol of Zeon's return, and around 60 reached their fleets.

What it does in the story

Because the outbound fleets took the Geara Zulu, Palau's defence was left to older Gaza and Geara Doga types. The suit fights Londo Bell at Industrial 7, where the Jegan and ReZEL pairing puts it at a disadvantage, and machines of the Garencieres later change sides to fight alongside the Nahel Argama. Those carry thick orange stripes on the thighs and a new head emblem to mark the switch.

What makes it different

  • The decorations carry rank. The ornate engraving on the wrists and chest is what gave the Sleeves their nickname. Shoulder spike patterns vary from unit to unit, and with the blade antenna on a commander's forehead they mark the pilot's rank and role.
  • Underneath it is a Geara Doga. The internal structure stayed largely identical to its predecessor's, which keeps parts interchangeable and maintenance simple. The redesign went into productivity and modularity rather than into a new frame.
  • The machine gun's magazine is its foregrip. The e-pac is banana-shaped for capacity and doubles as a grip, with three spares clipped to each front skirt armour. Adjusting the irradiation time lets the weapon act as a beam rifle, and a sensor or grenade launcher can be bolted on.
  • The beam hawk has three cutting options. One emitter on the side forms either a wide axe blade or a narrow pick, while a second on top throws a beam spike for stabbing. It hangs on the weapon mount at the rear waist when not in use.

How big is it?

  • Overall height: 20.0 m, with a base weight of 21.8 t and 55.2 t fully loaded, according to Bandai's official spec
  • 1/144: roughly 13.9 cm
  • 1/100: roughly 20 cm

Frequently asked questions

1. Is the Geara Zulu just a rebuilt Geara Doga?

The frame is largely the same and parts interchange, but it is a separate model with a new exterior and a modular weapon mount. Bandai's own material treats it as a modernised Geara Doga rather than a fresh design.

2. Why is a Sleeves machine covered in patterns?

The engraving and shoulder spikes are deliberate Zeon styling, meant to lift morale after Char disappeared at Axis. They also encode rank, so a decorated unit is not simply a cosmetic variant.

3. How many Geara Zulus were there?

Around 60, spread across the Sleeves' outbound fleets. That is why their stronghold still depended on older machines when Londo Bell arrived.

4. What is the heavy armament backpack?

An optional pack built around the Lange Bruno Gun Plus, a space-use beam launcher derived from the solid-round gun on the Geara Doga Heavy Weapons Type. Gilboa Sant's machine pairs it with a beam gatling gun.
