AGE-1 Gundam AGE-1 Normal

AGE-1 Gundam AGE-1 Normal is the first Gundam of Mobile Suit Gundam AGE (2011, Advanced Generation 115). Flit Asuno develops it from data held in the AGE Device his family has passed down, and it goes into action with the Earth Federation's Grodek faction.

What it does in the story

Flit takes it out against the Unknown Enemy, whose mobile suits ignore the Federation's beam spray guns, and the AGE System works out the DODS Rifle during an early engagement to answer them. The suit later passes to his son Asemu, and once the Federation can maintain it without the AGE System it is rebuilt into the AGE-1 Flat.

What makes it different

  • The AGE System writes its own equipment. The operating system collects combat data, analyses what it is fighting, and works out the gear needed to beat it, which the AGE Builder then manufactures. The DODS Rifle exists because the Genoace's beam spray gun could not damage a Vagan mobile suit.
  • The DODS Rifle drills through armour. It spins the beam it fires like a drill, and that is what lets a single shot destroy a Gafran or a Baqto. The cost is a limited charge, so a running fight ends with an empty rifle, and the weapon can be set for one-handed or two-handed use depending on how much accuracy is needed.
  • Wear parts change the whole machine. Armour and equipment built by the AGE Builder convert the AGE-1 into the faster Spallow or the heavier Titus. Each limb carries its own power unit, a quirk of the experimental build that made swapping whole sections practical in the first place.
  • The fin on its back is an antenna. The spoiler-shaped fitting is a broad antenna that works with the head sensors to gather and analyse data mid-battle, and it can transmit a limited amount of what it learns. That is how the AGE System keeps improving while the suit is deployed.

How big is it?

  • Head height: 18.0 m
  • 1/144: roughly 12.5 cm

Frequently asked questions

1. What does the AGE System actually do?

It is an operating system that studies the enemy, designs countermeasures and hands the plans to the AGE Builder for manufacture. It only runs with the AGE Device, it grows alongside its pilot, and it is set up for that one pilot rather than for anyone who climbs in.

2. How do Titus and Spallow differ from the Normal?

They are the same frame wearing different wear parts. Titus trades speed for armour and close-range power, Spallow trades armour for mobility, and the Normal stays the balanced configuration that the other two are built from.

3. Who else has piloted an AGE-1?

Asemu Asuno, Flit's son, flies the original later on. A second airframe, AGE-1F/2 Unit 2, was assembled from spare parts to test the Jacket System and was assigned to Largan Drace.

4. Why is the DODS Rifle shaped like that?

DODS stands for Drill-Orbital Discharge System, and the spinning beam is the whole idea: it bores into armour that a plain beam shot would splash off. The rifle stores on the rear waist armour when not in use.
