Hatsune Miku is a Vocaloid voicebank and software application developed by Crypton Future Media, with a voice generated from vocal samples provided by Japanese voice actress Saki Fujita. Released in August 2007 as the first Japanese voicebank for Yamaha's Vocaloid 2 engine, the software is personified by an official mascot character, a 16-year-old girl with turquoise twintails. Marketed as a virtual idol, Miku has performed at live virtual concerts as an animated projection. Her name means "the first sound of the future".

How to choose
Prize figures (SEGA, Taito, FuRyu) are pre-painted, fixed-pose and the most affordable way into a good sculpt. POP UP PARADE figures are also fixed-pose. Nendoroids are small chibi figures with swappable parts, and figma figures are articulated for posing. Scale figures are the display centrepieces. PLAMATEA and MODEROID kits are plastic model kits you assemble yourself. Product titles name the version or event design. Availability changes as makers reissue and retire items, so check each product page for the current status.
