MSN-03 Jagd Doga

MSN-03 Jagd Doga is a Newtype-use assault mobile suit that Anaheim Electronics built for Neo Zeon in Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack (1988, U.C. 0093). Two units were completed: a blue-green and yellow machine with a head antenna for the Cyber Newtype Gyunei Guss, and a red and light grey one for Quess Paraya.

What it does in the story

Gyunei flew his Jagd Doga against Amuro Ray three times, first while Amuro was still in the Re-GZ and afterwards against the Nu Gundam, and the funnels turned those fights into a problem in three dimensions rather than a straight gun duel. Quess's machine fought alongside it until it was damaged, after which she moved to the Alpha Azieru.

What makes it different

  • The frame is a Geara Doga's, uprated. Anaheim started from the mass-produced Geara Doga's frame and enlarged the generator, then improved the sensors, thrusters and reactor to match. In Neo Zeon's line-up the result sat just below the Sazabi.
  • Its six funnels cannot be reloaded. Three funnels are mounted on each shoulder's funnel pod shield, rated at 10.6 MW each and the same type the Sazabi carries. Because the suit has no recharge port for them, a funnel that runs out of energy is discarded instead of recovered.
  • The shields double as missile racks. Each funnel pod shield carries a triple missile launcher on its back face, six missiles in total. That gives the suit something to fire while the funnels are away from the body.
  • The two units carry different hand weapons. Gyunei's machine used a beam assault rifle with a single-round grenade launcher; Quess's used a four-barrel mega Gatling gun that fires beam shots for longer bursts. Both carried the beam saber with its detachable heat knife, a small blade heated until it cuts armour.

How big is it?

  • Head height: 21.0 m at the head and overall, 28.0 t dry and 64.6 t gross, according to Bandai's official spec
  • 1/144: roughly 14.6 cm
  • 1/100: roughly 21 cm

Frequently asked questions

1. How many Jagd Dogas were built?

Two, one for each pilot in the 0093 war. Quess's damaged unit was later repaired by the Sleeves, who replaced its lost right arm and shoulder with Geara Doga parts and flew it in U.C. 0096.

2. Why can't the Jagd Doga's funnels be reused?

The suit has nowhere to plug them in. Earlier funnel-equipped machines could recharge their remote weapons, but the Jagd Doga has no port for it, so each funnel is a single charge that is dropped once spent.

3. What separates Gyunei's unit from Quess's?

The paint scheme, the head antenna on Gyunei's machine and the hand weapon. The funnel loadout, the frame and the shield arrangement are the same on both.

4. Is the Jagd Doga a smaller Sazabi?

No, it is a separate design built on a Geara Doga frame rather than a scaled-down command suit. It shares the funnel type with the Sazabi, but carries six of them and lacks the Sazabi's raw output.
