GN-0000+GNR-010 00 Raiser

GN-0000+GNR-010 00 Raiser is the docked form of the 00 Gundam and the 0 Raiser support craft, introduced in the second season of Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (2008, A.D. 2312). Both halves belong to Celestial Being: Setsuna F. Seiei flies the Gundam while Saji Crossroad sits in the 0 Raiser's cockpit.

What it does in the story

The 0 Raiser exists because the 00 could not hold its Twin Drive steady, and the docking is the repair. From the moment the two machines combine, the Twin Drive runs at full synchronisation and Trans-Am can be used without the drives overloading, so the 00 Raiser carries the second season's front line. Its Raiser Sword — a beam blade thousands of kilometres long — is what cuts the Memento Mori apart.

What makes it different

• The support craft is the stabiliser. The 0 Raiser's control system is what brings the 00's two GN Drives to full synchronisation. The combination is not extra firepower bolted on for looks; it is the fix for the instability that kept the 00 from using its own reactor system safely.
• Its binders become the Gundam's antennas. As the 0 Raiser docks, its body folds onto the 00's backpack and its left and right binders attach to the shoulder-mounted GN Drives. The blue fins on those binders then deploy as large clavicle antennas, sharply improving how the suit controls its GN particles.
• Trans-Am turns it into a different machine. Under Trans-Am the 00 Raiser's output climbs well past the system's usual threefold rise, and the result has its own name: Trans-Am Raiser. In that state it can quantise — vanish and reappear elsewhere — and it generates a quantum space in which thoughts pass between the people inside it.
• The last battle swaps in a single sword. The GN Sword III, mounted on the right forearm, replaced the pair of GN Sword IIs for the final fight. Its blade folds into a three-barrelled rifle, and its Raiser Sword mode produces the giant blade that had previously needed both GN Sword IIs.
