AMX-004-2 Qubeley Mk-II

AMX-004-2 Qubeley Mk-II is the dark purple unit built at Axis and flown by Elpeo Ple in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ (1986, U.C. 0088). Neo Zeon used it to measure the abilities of a ten-year-old Newtype.

What it does in the story

It first appears at an abandoned colony used as an ambush point for the Endra squadron, where Ple's funnels cover the retreat and damage the Gundam Mk-II and the Zeta Gundam. Bright Noa recognises the type as the machine Haman Karn flies. It is finally shot down in an atmospheric entry fight against the Zeta.

What makes it different

• Ten funnels sit in the rear armour. The Mk-II carries the same ten psycommu funnels as the original Qubeley, in the movable rear armour. They run on capacitors, so they return to the suit to recharge.
• The forearm weapon is a gun and a sword. A dual-purpose beam gun and saber sits in each forearm, a different model from the original's. The saber throws three thin blades or one thick one.
• The shoulders carry twelve thrusters. Twelve thrusters in the shoulder armour give the suit its speed and feed its AMBAC control. The odd head is a flight stabiliser and houses a psywave sender that feeds back to the pilot.
• Its fingers can give the funnels orders. The hands carry the same psywave transmitter as the head, so funnels can be ordered from the fingers rather than only through the cockpit.
