What Is P-Bandai? How to Buy Premium Bandai Kits in Canada and the US

Short answer: P-Bandai (Premium Bandai) is Bandai's web-exclusive line of Gunpla and figures, sold in short ordering windows and rarely reissued. Bandai runs regional P-Bandai stores for Japan, the US, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong. There is no Canadian store, and the US store does not deliver to Canada (its shipping page says so in plain words as of September 2026). Canadians get P-Bandai kits through a Canadian retailer or a Japanese proxy service; Americans can use the US store or a retailer that ships DDP. P-Rex Hobby, a Bandai Recommended Hobby Store in Vancouver, carries P-Bandai items for both countries and runs a waitlist for exclusives the official stores have stopped selling.

What does P-Bandai mean?

P-Bandai is short for Premium Bandai, the direct-to-consumer web shop operated by Bandai Spirits under the Bandai Namco group. It launched in Japan and now has regional storefronts. The name is attached to the products as much as the store: hobbyists say "a P-Bandai kit" to mean any Gunpla or figure that was only ever sold through Premium Bandai and never went to regular retail. Boxes, hobby-news sites and second-hand listings all use the label the same way.

P-Bandai vs regular Bandai: what is actually different?

Feature Regular Bandai release P-Bandai release
Where it is sold Hobby stores and retailers worldwide Premium Bandai web stores only, plus retailers who secure an allocation
Production Ongoing; popular kits are reissued One run sized to the ordering window; reissues are uncommon
What the kit is New moulds and mainstream designs Usually the retail mould in a new colour, finish or configuration, or add-on parts for it
Price Bandai's retail price Higher: Bandai's own premium, then import cost if you are outside Japan
After sell-out Wait for the next batch Second-hand market, a retailer's remaining stock, or a waitlist

The plastic itself is not "better." A P-Bandai HG builds like an HG and a P-Bandai MG builds like an MG, so our grade guide applies unchanged. What you are paying for is the variant and the scarcity.

What kinds of items are P-Bandai exclusive?

  • Colour and finish variants of retail kits: clear colour, titanium finish, special coating, mechanical clear, anniversary or event colours.
  • Niche mobile suits from older series that would not sell at retail volume but have a dedicated following.
  • Expansion parts: weapon sets, effect units, armour add-ons. These are sold without the base kit and are marked (MS body not included) on our site.
  • Gundam Base Limited items, originally sold only at Bandai's Gundam Base shops, which circulate the same way once their run ends.
  • Figures such as Tamashii Nations exclusives (S.H.Figuarts, METAL BUILD) and prize-tier crossovers.

Does Premium Bandai ship to Canada?

No. The official US store (p-bandai.com/us) lists the United States as its only delivery area, excludes US territories, and states "at present, we do not deliver to Canada." The Japan store redirects overseas visitors to a region page that offers Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, Singapore, the US, Australia, New Zealand, and Shopee shops for the Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand. Canada is not on that list. So a Canadian address has two real routes:

  1. A Canadian retailer that carries P-Bandai. Prices in CAD, domestic shipping, no customs step. This is the route P-Rex Hobby exists for. Ordering windows are short, so items sell out at retail too, but a retailer can also hold stock after the official window has closed.
  2. A Japanese proxy or forwarding service. The service buys from the Japan store and ships to you. Expect the proxy fee, international postage and import charges on top of the kit price, and a longer wait. Worth it for Japan-only items that never reach any other region.

Does Premium Bandai ship to the US, and where from?

Yes. The US store delivers to US addresses (not territories, not PO boxes or parcel lockers) by FedEx or USPS for a flat fee per package; in-stock items ship within a few business days and pre-orders ship on the schedule shown on each product page. Details and current fees are on Premium Bandai USA's own shipping page. The US store carries a subset of what Japan gets, so US builders still turn to retailers or proxies for the rest. Orders from P-Rex Hobby to the US ship from Vancouver with duties prepaid (DDP), so the checkout total is the final price.

Is P-Bandai legit?

Yes. p-bandai.com is Bandai's own store, operated by Bandai Spirits and presented by Bandai Namco Group; it is the first-party source for these items. The question usually comes up because the packaging is plainer than retail and because so many third-party sellers use the "P-Bandai" label. The things to check on a kit from any seller: the Premium Bandai marking on the box, Bandai's own runner tags and manual quality, and a seller you can trace. P-Rex Hobby is listed on Bandai's hobby store locator as a Bandai Recommended Hobby Store, and every item we sell is an official Bandai release in original packaging.

How do I buy P-Bandai kits from Japan?

If you are in a region without a P-Bandai store, or you want an item the regional stores did not carry, a proxy service is the standard path: you send them the product link, they order during the window and forward the parcel. Read the service's fee table before committing, budget for import charges at your border, and remember that the ordering window is often only a few weeks. When an item has already closed, the choice is the second-hand market or a retailer waitlist.

How the waitlist works at P-Rex Hobby

Many P-Bandai items on our site are past their official ordering window. Instead of hiding them, we list them with a Join the waitlist button in place of Add to Cart. Joining is free and reserves nothing; it tells us how many people want a kit. When enough people are waiting we source it, then email the list in sign-up order with a purchase link. There is no promised date, and some kits never come back. Items we can sell right now show In Stock or Pre-Order as usual. The whole set, both states, is in the P-Bandai collection.

Is P-Bandai worth it?

Buy P-Bandai when you want that specific variant: the colour, the finish, the suit that only exists there. Skip it if you are new to Gunpla; the retail line has the same engineering at a lower price and never runs out, and a first kit should be a retail HG or RG. Skip it also when the second-hand price has run far past the original; P-Bandai does occasionally reissue, and a waitlist costs nothing while you wait.

FAQ

What does P-Bandai stand for?

Premium Bandai, Bandai's web-exclusive store and the product line sold through it.

Why is P-Bandai more expensive?

Short single production runs, special finishes or clear plastics, and, outside Japan, import cost. Nothing about the base engineering is different from the retail kit of the same grade.

Can I pre-order P-Bandai at P-Rex Hobby?

When we have an allocation for an upcoming release, yes, it appears as a normal Pre-Order. Items that have already closed at Bandai appear as waitlist items instead, which are free to join and not a purchase.

Do P-Bandai kits get restocked?

Sometimes. Bandai reissues a small number of popular items, and retailers can have stock after the official window closes. Joining the waitlist is the easiest way to hear about either.

Where does P-Rex Hobby ship P-Bandai kits?

Canada and the United States, from our warehouse in Vancouver. Canadian orders are in CAD; US orders ship DDP with duties prepaid.
