Discover the iconic C-46, the largest aircraft in history powered by twin reciprocating engines, now available as a detailed model kit from Barom. First taking to the skies in 1940 and with a production run of 3,181 units from July 1942 to 1945, this aircraft has a storied history. It served as the backbone of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, playing a crucial role in the Pacific War, notably in the "Hump Crossing" missions over the Himalayas. The C-46 was not only a key player in the U.S. military's transport operations but also served in the Korean War, the Berlin Blockade air transport operations, and the early stages of the Vietnam War. It was adopted by the U.S. Marine Corps as the R5C and later provided to the Japan Air Self-Defense Force and the Republic of China Air Force. Remarkably, several of these aircraft are still in use today in the private sector, including in Canada.
