Description

Discover the engineering marvel of the WWII era with our meticulously crafted model of the Strabokran mobile gantry crane. Originally developed by J.S Fries Frankfurt am Main in the 1930s for heavy-duty lifting in ports and railroad facilities, these cranes became a crucial asset for the German military. Designed to address the challenge of lifting heavy tanks such as Tigers and Panthers, the Strabokran featured a unique horizontal gantry supported by collapsible towers. Each tower, made up of four hinged scissor-sections, could be erected through a hand-cranked winch, showcasing an ingenious design tailored for field maintenance units.

Our model represents the Strabokrans developed with 15t, 16t, and 20t lifting capacities, which were towed by the robust Sd.Kfz 8 and Sd.Kfz. 9 halftracks. With around 100 units built, including those license-manufactured by Stratenwerth in Duisburg, these cranes were pivotal for units equipped with the formidable Tigers and Panthers, as well as V2 rocket units.
