Developed by the Fiat design office under Celestino Rosatelli, this aircraft was produced from 1939 to 1944 in Turin, with a total of 1782 units built.
The Fiat CR.42 LW was the ground attack version used by the German Luftwaffe, featuring bomb armament and flame arresters.
