Description
Discover the intricate details of military history with this exceptional model kit from Hobby Boss. Dive into the heart of World War II engineering with the VK 45.03, a tank that marked a significant point in armored vehicle design. Initially contested by designs from Henschel and Porsche, it was Henschel's design that ultimately took precedence, leading to the production of all Tiger IIs. This model kit brings to life the Henschel version, known for its conventional hull design with sloped armor, a layout reminiscent of the Panther tank. It features a rear-mounted engine and a unique suspension system with nine overlapping road wheels per side, mounted on transverse torsion bars.
The Tiger II's turret designs are a highlight of this kit, offering a glimpse into the evolution from the initial "Porsche turret" to the more streamlined "Henschel" turret. Despite common misconceptions, the initial turret design, with its rounded front and complex curvature, was a Krupp design for both prototypes, not exclusive to Porsche. This kit allows you to explore the transition to the simplified production turret, designed to eliminate the shot trap and streamline manufacturing.
The track system of the Tiger II is another point of interest, featuring a unique alternating "contact shoe" and "connector" link design. This heavy tank, developed late in the war, showcases the challenges of engineering vehicles for extreme power and armor, balanced with the limitations of available resources and technology.
This Hobby Boss kit is a treasure trove for modelers, containing over 900 parts. It offers an immersive building experience with a multi-slide molded lower hull and turret, individual tracks for detailed assembly, and photo-etched parts that add a layer of realism and precision. Decals are included to bring authenticity to your model, allowing for a historically accurate representation.
