Discover the iconic Leopard 1 Main Battle Tank, a masterpiece designed and produced in West Germany, now available as an exquisite model kit from Hobby Boss. First entering service in 1965, the Leopard 1 was developed during an era dominated by the threat of HEAT warheads, leading to a design that prioritized devastating firepower and cross-country mobility. It boasts the German-engineered version of the British L7 105-mm gun, setting a new standard for tank armament and mobility at the time.
The Leopard 1's journey began in the 1950s as a collaborative effort between West Germany, France, and later Italy. However, the partnership dissolved, leading to the Bundeswehr commissioning the final design. With full-scale production kicking off in 1965, a total of 6,485 Leopard tanks were produced, including 4,744 battle tanks and 1,741 utility and anti-aircraft variants, alongside 80 prototypes and pre-series vehicles.
