Description
Discover the remarkable history of the Taigei, a submarine tender turned aircraft carrier, with this detailed model kit. Originating from the skilled craftsmanship of Aoshima, this model captures the essence of naval engineering and historical transformation. The Taigei was initially laid down on April 12th, 1933, at the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal, marking the beginning of its journey under the 1st Naval Armaments Supplement Program of 1933. Designed to support new classes of submarines, the Taigei was a response to the ever-evolving demands of naval warfare. Despite its completion in March 1934, the vessel faced numerous challenges, including mechanical issues with its diesel engine and damage from a typhoon, delaying its active service until September 1938.
The onset of the Pacific War catalyzed its conversion into an aircraft carrier, a process that faced setbacks from the Doolittle Raid but ultimately concluded on November 28, with the Taigei being rechristened as the Ryuho. This model kit not only pays homage to the vessel's storied past but also offers enthusiasts a piece of naval history to build and cherish.
