History : Kotobukiya

Kotobukiya Co., Ltd. was founded in Tokyo’s Tachikawa district in 1947 by Jusaburo Shimizu as a small doll and toy shop. It reorganized into a limited liability company with Shimizu’s brothers in 1951 and formally became Kotobukiya on January 7, 1953. Initially focused on retail, it shifted to producing original plastic model kits in 1983 (“Armament”) and its first licensed kit, King Godzilla, in 1985.
