For all Gundam fans out there, Bandai’s latest model kit is sure to grab your attention. The HG 1/144 GQuuuuuuX Gundam comes with a unique design, dynamic articulation, and a fun building experience. • Scale: 1/144

  • Grade: High Grade

  • Manufacturer: Bandai

  • Release Date: January 2025

  • Price: $29 USD at prexhobby.com

Its highly detailed design and futuristic proportions really make it stand out among other HG kits.

What's in the Box & First Impressions

Inside the box, you’ll find:

  • 7 runners

  • 1 sticker sheet

  • 1 decal sheet

  • Assembly manual (in Japanese, but very easy to follow thanks to clear illustrations)

The plastic feels solid with sharp details and minimal nub marks. At a glance, this kit looks display-ready or ripe for custom builds.

Building Experience

Assembling this kit can be a bit of a challenge for a standard High Grade—it feels more like building a Real Grade due to the density of parts. No glue is needed, and most parts come pre-colored nicely.

  • Build Time: Around 2–4 hours

  • Difficulty Level: Easy to Medium

The trickiest part? Applying the tiny stickers on the head, chest, and legs. For best results, consider adding panel lining and a topcoat.

Head Unit

You get two head options: one with open horns and one with closed horns. It’s pretty cool to have both choices in a High Grade kit. The color separation and detailing on the head alone are impressive. However, applying the eye and horn stickers can be fiddly due to their small size—handle with care!

Body Unit

The body design is slender yet bold. The multicolor detailing is especially eye-catching—rare for a High Grade kit. The mix of white, red, blue, and yellow is truly epic. There are also some nice panel line details around the neck, adding even more depth to the overall look.

Arms

The arms are quite slim, but they have an interesting joint system. The shoulder joint is a bit delicate—connected by a small peg without extra reinforcement. Avoid frequent reassembly here. The arm base uses a new double-ring joint, providing better flexibility and smoother movement.
You also get two sets of hands: open palms and closed fists—great flexibility for posing.

Waist

The waist design is minimalistic yet detailed, with a nice aerodynamic shape. The joints are sturdy and flexible thanks to some clever internal mechanisms that enhance mobility. The crotch slot for attaching the legs is a bit small, but it helps maintain movement stability.

Legs

The leg design is one of the highlights of the GQuuuuuuX. They’re sleek, aerodynamic, and highly detailed. The multicolor parts and decals sharpen the aesthetics even more. The feet may look a bit minimal compared to Barbatos, but they’re strong enough to support the Mobile Suit. The ankles use a unique triple-layered frame system. While this makes them more flexible, be cautious when posing to avoid parts popping off.

Backpack

The backpack has a minimalist and futuristic design—different from your typical Gundam packs. Color and detailing are excellent, and you get decals for additional markings. It can also be detached and used as a separate unit like a drone or aircraft. There’s even a slot compatible with action base stands.

Weapons

This kit comes with a decent range of weapons, including 1 laser gun that’s surprisingly detailed for an HG, 1 simple shield, 1 battle axe, 2 beam saber effects and 2 beam saber handles —all of which look great when posed.

Articulation & Posing

The HG 1/144 GQuuuuuuX Gundam features some of the most revolutionary articulation for its grade. Structurally and ergonomically, it’s clearly well thought out.

You can pull off extreme and dynamic poses with ease:

  • Ball-jointed head

  • Double-jointed elbows and knees

  • Rotatable waist and torso

  • Great for action poses and aerial displays

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Fresh, standout design

  • Excellent articulation

  • Easy and fun to build and pose

Cons:

  • Tiny stickers can be tricky to apply

  • Some poses may need an action base for stability

Final Verdict: Is It Worth It?

Absolutely YES!
The HG 1/144 GQuuuuuuX Gundam is one of the most exciting High Grade releases this year. Whether you’re into displaying, dynamic posing, or customizing your kits—this one checks all the boxes.
