ZGMF-515 CGUE

ZGMF-515 CGUE is ZAFT's commander-use mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED (2002, C.E. 70). The Heinlein Design Bureau developed it as the GINN's successor, PLANT built it in limited numbers, and the machine is tied to one pilot above all: Rau Le Creuset, whose silver-grey personal colour was carried over to the other CGUEs.

What it does in the story

Rau flies his CGUE at the Battle of Heliopolis, first against Mu La Flaga's Moebius Zero and then inside the colony, where a shot from the Launcher Strike's Agni cannon damages the suit and forces him to withdraw to his ship. He keeps using it until he reaches Earth and switches to a DINN, then returns to a CGUE once more at Mendel, this time carrying a beam rifle taken from his wrecked GuAIZ.

What makes it different

It was the GINN's replacement that never replaced it.
The CGUE was meant to become ZAFT's next standard machine, with better space performance than the GINN while still working on Earth. Once ZAFT captured the Earth Alliance's G-Weapons and saw Phase Shift armour and beam weapons, it put the beam-armed GuAIZ first, and the CGUE stayed a commander's machine.

The thrusters were the main change.
Much of the frame follows the GINN, but the propulsion was reworked: more thrusters, larger nozzles and bigger heat vents. That is where the improved mobility and manoeuvrability come from, rather than from a new armour material.

The shield carries a vulcan cannon.
The M7070 shield on the left arm has a 28mm Vulcan built into it, so the suit can keep the shield up and still shoot back at close range. It lets the pilot switch between blocking and firing without changing equipment.

Its machine gun cannot beat Phase Shift armour.
The 76mm heavy assault machine gun fires APSV armour-piercing rounds, which are powerful against ordinary plating but do not do meaningful damage to a suit protected by Phase Shift. The CGUE's answer to those machines had to be the heavy blade or a beam weapon borrowed from elsewhere.

How big is it?

Overall height: 21.43 m with a full weight of 80.22 t, per Bandai's published spec

1/144: roughly 15 cm

Why buy from P-Rex Hobby

P-Rex Hobby is a Bandai Recommended Hobby Store with 20,000+ customers served and 1,800+ five-star reviews.
