RGZ-95 ReZEL

RGZ-95 ReZEL is a mass-production transformable mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn (2010, U.C. 0096). Anaheim Electronics developed it for the Earth Federation as the production answer to the Zeta Gundam, first deployed in U.C. 0095, and the name is short for Refined Zeta Gundam Escort Leader. Londo Bell's Nahel Argama carries several, one of them flown by Riddhe Marcenas.

What it does in the story

The Nahel Argama commits ReZELs against the Sleeves at Industrial 7, where numbers do not help against the Kshatriya. Riddhe's unit comes through that battle and is later part of the support the Unicorn Gundam receives against the Sinanju. The type stays in service for decades afterwards, and in U.C. 0112 three ReZELs are used as aggressor machines in trials of the F90 Electronic Type.

What makes it different

It transforms without a bolt-on backpack.
The earlier RGZ-91 Re-GZ needed a Back Weapon System to change form. The ReZEL instead takes the ZII's concept and a simplified mechanism based on the MSA-005 Methuss, and shares actuators and electronics with the Jegan to hold down cost and maintenance.

It was designed to carry other mobile suits.
In waverider mode every thruster points the same way, which left the suit with thrust to spare, so grips were built into its backpack and it doubles as a sub-flight system for the Jegan. That saved the hangar space dedicated Base Jabbers would have taken, which helped get the design approved after the Federation's post-war disarmament.

A rookie is meant to be able to fly both modes.
A thrust limiter holds the suit's performance down, and a new operating system makes waverider mode handle much like mobile suit mode. Older transformables needed separate training for each form; the ReZEL does not.

The shield is the main weapon in flight.
A beam cannon firing in three-round bursts is mounted at the front of the shield and becomes the primary armament in waverider mode, while the blade at the back of the shield works as a ramming weapon in close combat.

How big is it?

Overall height: 20.5 m, per the machine's official spec listing, at 25.8 t dry and 57.6 t gross

1/144: roughly 14.2 cm

Why buy from P-Rex Hobby

P-Rex Hobby is a Bandai Recommended Hobby Store with 20,000+ customers served and 1,800+ five-star reviews.
