MSJ-06II-A Tieren Ground Type

MSJ-06II-A Tieren Ground Type is the Human Reform League's mass-production mobile suit in the first season of Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (2007, Anno Domini 2307). The HRL kept it in service for over a decade, and by the time Celestial Being appears it is the bloc's standard machine, supplied to allies such as the Tamil Tigers. The name means Iron Man in Mandarin.

What it does in the story

The Tieren is what the Human Reform League sends against the Gundams in the first season, and against a machine running on a GN drive it is outmatched. From A.D. 2308 the GN-X series takes over the front line and the Tieren is retired to guard duty at bases and facilities. By A.D. 2312 the anti-Federation group Katharon is operating captured examples, and the GNX-704T Ahead, built by the same HRL team, is treated as the line's successor.

What makes it different

The pilot stands up inside it.
The cockpit sits in the chest and is cramped enough that the pilot controls the suit on their feet. HRL planners accepted that because a sortie rarely runs past an hour, so livability was never treated as a design driver.

It has no monitors.
Camera and sensor data go to the pilot's helmet and are projected straight onto the retina, and slight eye and head movements input commands. A cable at the mouth section carries data between pilot and computer, which is why the face is fully covered.

It fires shells on purpose.
The main gun is a 200mm smoothbore and the melee weapon a carbon blade, both older technology than the beam weapons other blocs were adopting. Their simple design makes them cheap to produce and hard to break, which is what crews value.

The HRL traded novelty for uptime.
Rather than chase the Union Flag and the AEU Enact, the HRL kept improving a single airframe. The Tieren series breaks down 40% less often than other blocs' suits and takes about a fifth of the maintenance time, and the HRL treats that continuity as a training advantage too.

How big is it?

Overall height: 18.1 m, per Bandai's official spec

1/144: roughly 13 cm

1/100: roughly 18 cm

Why buy from P-Rex Hobby

P-Rex Hobby is a Bandai Recommended Hobby Store with 20,000+ customers served and 1,800+ five-star reviews.
