その間に扶桑型の欠点を修正し、さらに対米戦艦対策を盛り込んだ改扶桑型となり、大正４年（1915年）ようやく神戸川崎造船所で起工されました。大正６年（1917年）12月竣工、同時に艦隊に編入されています。 この頃の戦艦はイギリスに範をとっていたため一見イギリスの戦艦と見間違う外観をしており、日本独自の艦容を持つのはもう少し後のこととなります。 また、改扶桑型として設計されたため扶桑型ともよく似ていますが艦中央部３番、４番砲塔が扶桑型では煙突をはさんでいるのに対して伊勢型では後部煙突後方に背負い式に配置されているのが大きな違いです。 伊勢は竣工後、呉鎮守府に入籍、翌大正７年（1918年）４月には第１艦隊第１戦隊に編入され扶桑、山城、伊勢、日向の超ド級36cm砲搭載４艦の世界最強艦隊ができあがりました。 この間シベリア出兵に伴う支援作戦で北方海域へ出動したとされています。この後、伊勢は幾度か小改造を加えつつ、昭和２年（1927年）本格的な前檣楼の改装工事に着手、射撃指揮所、測的所、見張所、照射指揮所、檣楼司令所、各方位盤照準装置、測的盤などを前檣楼に配置し、見慣れた日本戦艦的艦橋となりました。 さらにこの後５番砲塔上に水偵搭載台を設置したり、後部甲板上にカタパルトを配置するなど航空兵装を順次充実させています。こうして昭和の時代になりますと各国の戦艦の能力が上がってき、さらに航空機の能力は飛躍的に上昇してゆきます。 これに対抗するために昭和10年（1935年）砲戦能力の強化、水平、水中防御の改善、速力の向上などを目的とした近代化工事に着手します。 伊勢は一連の戦艦近代化工事を最後に受けたため、その成果がすべて投入され長門型戦艦に次ぐ有力艦になったとされています。伊勢はこうして防空指揮所の増設などの小改造はあったもののこの状態で太平洋戦争に突入します。 昭和16年（1941年）12月の真珠湾攻撃では「機動部隊の引き揚げを援護する」目的で攻撃当日の12月８日に豊後水道を出撃し太平洋に出ています。 これは機動部隊に損害が出たときのためとされていますが、実は勲章のためといのが真実のようです。もちろん機動部隊援護の必要などなく単なる大名行列に終わってしまっています。 この後、機動部隊が敵太平洋艦隊を撃滅させてしまったため当面の敵がいなくなり戦艦部隊は単に訓練に明け暮れる日々ともなってしまいました。 そして昭和17年（1942年）６月のミッドウェー海戦でも陽動のアリューシャン作戦の支援艦として出撃しますが今回も何らなすことなく終わっています。 ハワイ、インド洋、珊瑚海、ミッドウェーと戦いの様相は空母と航空機の時代になってしまい、戦艦の時代は急速に終わろうとしていました。 さて、ミッドウェーで主力の４空母を失った海軍はその補用として存在価値の少なくなった鈍足の戦艦に飛行甲板を設けて航空戦艦とする事を決定、伊勢、日向にこの改装を施すこととしたのです。 改装工事は昭和18年（1943年）８月に完了、世界でも類を見ない半戦艦、半空母の航空戦艦が誕生したのです。 搭載機は彗星とと瑞雲。発艦はカタパルトを用い、着艦ができないため彗星は他の空母または陸上基地に収容、瑞雲は着水、デリックにて収容というものでした。このため航空戦艦伊勢、日向専用の航空隊、634航空隊も編成されています。こうしているうちにも戦局は悪化の一途をたどり、マリアナ沖海戦では空母航空部隊が壊滅。そしてアメリカ軍のフィリピン侵攻が始まり、起死回生の捷一号作戦が発令されると、昭和19年（1944年）10月、伊勢は小沢治三郎中将指揮下の空母囮艦隊に空母？として出撃します。 もっともこの時伊勢は634空を持たず格納庫には一機の航空機もありませんでしたので空母とは言えなかったかもしれませんが。小沢艦隊は目的通りエンガノ 岬沖にハルゼーの艦隊を引きつけるのに成功しますが、その代償も大きく、第３航空艦隊の瑞鶴、瑞鳳、千歳、千代田の四空母を喪失してしまいます。 この海戦で伊勢は瑞鶴、瑞鳳を護って奮戦、抜群の繰艦で敵弾を次々と交わし数発の至近弾を受けたのみ、損害軽微で無事生還を果たしています。 この後一旦本土に戻った伊勢はシンガポールへ回航、ここで多量のガソリンを始め重要物資を満載。昭和 20年（1945年）２月10日シンガポールを出港した伊勢は、米潜水艦の跳梁する海を薄氷の思いで突破して２月20日呉へと無事帰還、この北号作戦を見 事に成功させています。 呉帰着後は燃料不足で戦艦として使うことができないため予備艦に編入され、浮き砲台として呉港内に繋留されます。予備艦とは言っても元は戦艦、米軍が放っておく訳もなく、動かないまま数次の空襲を受け滅多打ちに合い、昭和20年（1945年）７月28日の空襲で大破、着底してしまいました。 この時伊勢が放った主砲弾は四百数十発。そのうちの最後の一発が停弾してしまい、ようやくの思いで発射したのですがこの一発が帝国海軍戦艦の放った最後の主砲弾だったとのことです。 そこで先進のイギリス海軍の技術を学ぶべく計画中の金剛級４艦のうち金剛をイギリスのヴィッカース造船所に発注し、残りの３艦を日本の造船所で造るという策を採ったのです。 金剛級は英巡戦ライオン級の強化、改良型として設計され優速、強火力の極めて優秀な巡洋戦艦となりました。 後の第一次大戦で英海軍から借用を申し込まれたり、ほぼ同級のタイガー級を英海軍が造ったことでもこの優秀性は証明されています。 金剛は1913年、第一次大戦直前に竣工しました。しかし、第一次大戦中の英独両艦隊が激突したジュトランド沖海戦では巡洋戦艦の弱点が露呈してしまいました。 それは速度を重視して防御を二の次とした巡戦特有の欠陥で遠距離砲戦での大落下角の砲弾に極めて弱いということだったのです。 金剛はこの戦訓を取り入れて防御力の強化を計り1928年に第一次改装に着手、1931年に改装が完了しています。この改装により速度が低下したため巡洋 戦艦から戦艦へと艦種も変更されました。（本来戦艦の命名には国の名称を用いるのですが、金剛級４艦はいずれも山の名称を付けています。これは出生が巡洋 戦艦だったからです。） さて、金剛は第一次改装が済んだと思ったら数年で第二次改装に着手します。 これは金剛本来の高速性能を取り戻し、また航空機の発達に伴う航空兵装及び対航空兵装を強化することにありました。 この第二次改装の結果、金剛は30ノットという優速の高速戦艦に生まれ変わり、艦容も我々が見慣れたものとなって太平洋戦争へと突入してゆきます。 金剛は開戦時には近藤信竹中将指揮下のマレー攻略部隊に配備され、同型艦榛名と共に第１艦隊第３戦隊を形成していました。 イギリス極東艦隊に備えるためだったのです。 結果的に英艦プリンス・オブ・ウェールズ及びレパルスの両戦艦は航空機により撃沈されてしまいましたが、金剛と榛名がこの２戦艦と砲火を交える可能性は充分にあったと思われます。 歴史にifはあり得ませんが、結果を問われれば金剛には分が悪かったのではないでしょうか。 金剛はその後南雲機動部隊に編入されインド洋作戦に参加しています。 この時は金剛級４艦が同一部隊で勢揃いをし、その時撮られた写真が往時を偲ばせてくれます。 1942年6月のミッドウェー海戦時には三川軍一中将の元、第３戦隊を編成しミッドウェー攻略部隊に加わっていましたが、直接戦火を交えてはいません。そ の後トラック島に進出し南方作戦に加わった金剛は、一時は山本連合艦隊司令長官直率で大和、武蔵の投入も考えられたガダルカナル島ヘンダーソン飛行場砲撃 作戦に投入され、僚艦榛名と共に栗田中将に率いられて合計918発の36cm砲弾を叩き込みヘンダーソン飛行場を火の海とし、一時的にではありますがアメ リカ軍の心胆を寒からしめ士気を挫くのに成功しています。 その後、1944年６月のマリアナ沖海戦では小沢治三郎中将指揮の空母部隊前衛として出撃して奮戦。 その間に扶桑型の欠点を修正し、さらに対米戦艦対策を盛り込んだ改扶桑型となり、大正４年（1915年）ようやく神戸川崎造船所で起工されました。大正６年（1917年）12月竣工、同時に艦隊に編入されています。 この頃の戦艦はイギリスに範をとっていたため一見イギリスの戦艦と見間違う外観をしており、日本独自の艦容を持つのはもう少し後のこととなります。 また、改扶桑型として設計されたため扶桑型ともよく似ていますが艦中央部３番、４番砲塔が扶桑型では煙突をはさんでいるのに対して伊勢型では後部煙突後方に背負い式に配置されているのが大きな違いです。 伊勢は竣工後、呉鎮守府に入籍、翌大正７年（1918年）４月には第１艦隊第１戦隊に編入され扶桑、山城、伊勢、日向の超ド級36cm砲搭載４艦の世界最強艦隊ができあがりました。 この間シベリア出兵に伴う支援作戦で北方海域へ出動したとされています。 この後、伊勢は幾度か小改造を加えつつ、昭和２年（1927年）本格的な前檣楼の改装工事に着手、射撃指揮所、測的所、見張所、照射指揮所、檣楼司令所、各方位盤照準装置、測的盤などを前檣楼に配置し、見慣れた日本戦艦的艦橋となりました。 さらにこの後５番砲塔上に水偵搭載台を設置したり、後部甲板上にカタパルトを配置するなど航空兵装を順次充実させています。 こうして昭和の時代になりますと各国の戦艦の能力が上がってき、さらに航空機の能力は飛躍的に上昇してゆきます。 これに対抗するために昭和10年（1935年）砲戦能力の強化、水平、水中防御の改善、速力の向上などを目的とした近代化工事に着手します。 伊勢は一連の戦艦近代化工事を最後に受けたため、その成果がすべて投入され長門型戦艦に次ぐ有力艦になったとされています。 伊勢はこうして防空指揮所の増設などの小改造はあったもののこの状態で太平洋戦争に突入します。 昭和16年（1941年）12月の真珠湾攻撃では「機動部隊の引き揚げを援護する」目的で攻撃当日の12月８日に豊後水道を出撃し太平洋に出ています。 これは機動部隊に損害が出たときのためとされていますが、実は勲章のためといのが真実のようです。 もちろん機動部隊援護の必要などなく単なる大名行列に終わってしまっています。 この後、機動部隊が敵太平洋艦隊を撃滅させてしまったため当面の敵がいなくなり戦艦部隊は単に訓練に明け暮れる日々ともなってしまいました。 そして昭和17年（1942年）６月のミッドウェー海戦でも陽動のアリューシャン作戦の支援艦として出撃しますが今回も何らなすことなく終わっています。 ハワイ、インド洋、珊瑚海、ミッドウェーと戦いの様相は空母と航空機の時代になってしまい、戦艦の時代は急速に終わろうとしていました。 さて、ミッドウェーで主力の４空母を失った海軍はその補用として存在価値の少なくなった鈍足の戦艦に飛行甲板を設けて航空戦艦とする事を決定、伊勢、日向にこの改装を施すこととしたのです。 改装工事は昭和18年（1943年）８月に完了、世界でも類を見ない半戦艦、半空母の航空戦艦が誕生したのです。 搭載機は彗星とと瑞雲。発艦はカタパルトを用い、着艦ができないため彗星は他の空母または陸上基地に収容、瑞雲は着水、デリックにて収容というものでした。 このため航空戦艦伊勢、日向専用の航空隊、634航空隊も編成されています。 こうしているうちにも戦局は悪化の一途をたどり、マリアナ沖海戦では空母航空部隊が壊滅。 そしてアメリカ軍のフィリピン侵攻が始まり、起死回生の捷一号作戦が発令されると、昭和19年（1944年）10月、伊勢は小沢治三郎中将指揮下の空母囮艦隊に空母？として出撃します。 もっともこの時伊勢は634空を持たず格納庫には一機の航空機もありませんでしたので空母とは言えなかったかもしれませんが。小沢艦隊は目的通りエンガノ 岬沖にハルゼーの艦隊を引きつけるのに成功しますが、その代償も大きく、第３航空艦隊の瑞鶴、瑞鳳、千歳、千代田の四空母を喪失してしまいます。 この海戦で伊勢は瑞鶴、瑞鳳を護って奮戦、抜群の繰艦で敵弾を次々と交わし数発の至近弾を受けたのみ、損害軽微で無事生還を果たしています。 この後一旦本土に戻った伊勢はシンガポールへ回航、ここで多量のガソリンを始め重要物資を満載。昭和 20年（1945年）２月10日シンガポールを出港した伊勢は、米潜水艦の跳梁する海を薄氷の思いで突破して２月20日呉へと無事帰還、この北号作戦を見 事に成功させています。 呉帰着後は燃料不足で戦艦として使うことができないため予備艦に編入され、浮き砲台として呉港内に繋留されます。 予備艦とは言っても元は戦艦、米軍が放っておく訳もなく、動かないまま数次の空襲を受け滅多打ちに合い、昭和20年（1945年）７月28日の空襲で大破、着底してしまいました。 この時伊勢が放った主砲弾は四百数十発。そのうちの最後の一発が停弾してしまい、ようやくの思いで発射したのですがこの一発が帝国海軍戦艦の放った最後の主砲弾だったとのことです。 （要　目）最終時 外観上では前檣楼が大幅に変わり、後の日本戦艦の雛型となったことが最大のポイントでしょう。 この結果最大速度が25ノットに低下したため、巡洋戦艦から戦艦へと類別変更がおこなわれたのは他の金剛級３艦と同じです。 第１次改装工事は昭和３年（1928年）7月に完了しますが、この後もたびたび小改造が施された後、昭和８年（1933年）には再び第２次改装工事に着手します。 この工事の目的は30ノットの優速を取り戻すこと。 そのため缶の変更と艦尾の延長を施して、ほぼ目的を達成しています。 外観上では前檣楼にガーターが追加され後檣も低くなり第４砲塔上に空中線支柱が設けられています。 改装なった榛名は昭和９年（1934年）11月に第１艦隊第１戦隊へと編入され、昭和11年（1936年）６月には改装完了した霧島と第３戦隊を編成しています。 榛名はこの後も度々小改造が施されていますが、開戦時まで中国戦線支援のために台湾、中国、香港方面に出動しています。 さて、昭和16年（1941年）12月の開戦時には榛名は金剛と共に英極東艦隊の戦艦プリンス・オブ・ウェールズ、レパルスへの備えとしてマレー方面に展開。 その後南雲艦隊のインド洋作戦、セイロン島襲撃に直衛艦として参加しています。 インド洋より帰着後、ミッドウェー島攻略作戦が発令され、南雲艦隊の直衛艦として出動するも輪形陣の不備により防御火網が濃密にならず直衛任務は結果的に 失敗に終わっています。この時は沈んだ空母飛龍の乗員救助をおこない、さらに米海軍機の攻撃で至近弾２発を受け若干の損害も被ってます。 ミッドウェー敗戦後は風雲急を告げるソロモン海域へ進出、昭和17年（1942年）10月栗田建夫中将に率いられてガダルカナル島ヘンダーソン飛行場に挺 身攻撃を掛け、金剛と共に合計918発の36cm砲弾を叩き込み一面を火の海と化して作戦を大成功のうちに完了しています。 その後はトラック島と内地を往復し、ミッドウェーの戦訓により対空機銃を増設、全身針鼠のような防御火網を纏います。 あ号作戦発動により惹起した昭和19年（1944年）６月のマリアナ沖海戦に参加するも、戦いはすでに空母のもの。 戦艦の出る幕はありませんでした。米海軍機の攻撃で直撃弾２発を喰らい損傷したのみで終わっています。 そして10月のレイテ決戦では小沢おとり空母艦隊の奮戦で栗田中将に率いられた戦艦、重巡艦隊は幸運にもサンベルナルジノ海峡を突破してサマール沖に敵空母群を発見、猛追するもガンビアベイ一艦を沈めたのみで、無念の反転、帰投するに至ります。 この時米海軍機の空襲で至近弾を受けて若干の損傷を被りました。 この修理のため榛名は呉軍港に回航されてそのまま一種の浮き砲台のようになり、数度の空襲で着底、そのまま終戦を迎えています。 終戦翌年の昭和21年（1946年）には解体されて長かった生涯を閉じたのです。 榛名は開戦から太平洋狭しと走り回って活躍し、そして生き残った唯一の戦艦だったのです。 （要　目）開戦時 の出撃と言うのが真相です。この後戦艦群は空母機動部隊、航空部隊の活躍を尻目に柱島泊地で訓練に明け暮れる“柱島艦隊”と化してしまいます。日向は昭和 17年（1942年）５月、訓練中に５番砲塔の爆発事故を起こし、ミッドウェー作戦支援では５番砲塔基部を塞いで25mm対空機銃を載せた状態で出撃しま ます。そして５，６番砲塔を撤去、後部に飛行甲板を設けた前代未聞の半空母、半戦艦の航空戦艦が昭和18年（1943年）８月に完成します。搭載機は彗星 33型と瑞雲。伊勢、日向専用の634航空隊も編成されて猛訓練を開始しています。航空機の運用は発艦にはカタパルトを使用し、着艦ができないため近くの この訪問航海は日本の重巡洋艦が世界に冠たる性能を誇っていることを世界の軍事関係者に強く印象づけたのですが、ヨーロッパ諸国（多分イギリス）の反応の中に「飢えた狼のよう」という形容があり、これを日本人は讃辞と解釈したようですが、どうもそうではなかったと現在では推測されています。 また、この時ドイツやイギリスで多くの写真が撮られ鮮明な写真が今でも残されているのは、不鮮明な写真しかない他の艦に比べて足柄にとって幸運だったと思われます。 帰国した足柄は折からの日中戦争の支援のために昭和12年（1937年）から昭和14年（1939年）まで黄海、南支那海などに展開しますが、特に戦闘行動はなく、輸送、護衛任務に就いています。 昭和14年より約１年を費やして足柄は第２次近代化改装工事を受け、砲撃力、雷撃力などを大幅にアップさせ、近代重巡洋艦として太平洋戦争を迎えることに なります。 開戦時妙高クラスは妙高、那智、羽黒が第２艦隊の本隊をなし、足柄のみ第３艦隊第16戦隊に分派されており、フィリピン西方をパトロールしたり台湾よりの陸軍兵を満載した輸送船団の護衛をしていました。 米アジア艦隊に重巡ヒューストンが配されていたための措置でした。フィリピン攻略後は蘭印（現インドネシア）作戦を支援し、ジャワ攻略作戦にも加わっています。 そして、足柄は損傷を修理し再進出してきた妙高とともに昭和 17年（1942年）のスラバヤ沖海戦の後半戦（３月１日）に参加。2月27日の前半戦でデ・ロイテル、とジャワを撃沈した日本艦隊は一旦スラバヤに避退 してセイロンに脱出を試みる英巡エクゼターを南より那智、羽黒の第２艦隊が、北から妙高、足柄が挟み撃ちするような形で砲戦を開始しエクゼターを駆逐艦 ポープ、エンカウンターと共に撃沈する殊勲をあげています。 この後昭和17年（1942年）３月、第２南遣艦隊の旗艦となった足柄はスラバヤを基地にインドネシア方面に睨みをきかせていたのですが、他の艦艇をよそ目に陸軍兵の輸送や護衛任務こなすのみで大きな戦闘に参加する機会もなく時が過ぎてゆきました。 昭和19年（1944年）７月、那智と北方艦隊である第５艦隊、第21戦隊に編入されるも北太平洋へ展開することもなく呉で待機。昭和19年（1944年）10月の台湾沖航空戦で米空母に多大の損害を与えたとの情報から残敵掃討と勇躍出撃したものの誤報と判り戻っています。 この直後のレイテ沖海戦に別働隊として志摩中将に率いられて出陣するも栗田、西村両艦隊との共同歩調がとれず、西村艦隊がスリガオ海峡で壊滅した後にスリガオ海峡に突入したのです。待ちかまえるのは戦艦を基幹とする米第７艦隊。西村艦隊を撃破した強力な艦隊相手ではどうにも勝ち目はなく、無念の思いで撤退したのです。 結局栗田艦隊のレイテ突入は「謎」のみを残して反転する結果となり、残存の栗田艦隊はブルネイに引き上げさらに本土へ廻航され、残った妙高、羽黒はシンガポールへ、足柄はベトナムのカムラン湾へ行くことになります。 そして、南西方面艦隊司令部よりミンドロ島砲撃が下令され、軽巡大淀と６隻の駆逐艦とともに木村少将の指揮下、昭和19年（1944年）12月24日カム ラン湾を出撃、途中敵の航空攻撃を排除しつつ26日夜間サンホセへ突入、砲撃、雷撃をおこない、敵輸送船多数に撃沈を含む多大の損害を与え、さらに飛行場、物資集積所にも砲撃を加えて炎上させるなど多くの損害を与えて久しぶりの大戦果を揚げたのです。 こうして就役した青葉は第２艦隊、第５戦隊を古鷹、加古、衣笠と編成し中国、内海方面で主に訓練に明け暮れました。 青葉級は画期的な巡洋艦ではありましたが、やはり無理をして強武装を施している感は否めませんでした。 さらに時代は日進月歩。この級の後にできた１万トン級の条約型巡洋艦に比しても見劣りがするようになってきたのです。 そこで、古鷹級に続いて近代化改装工事を施すことになります。基本的な改装ポイントは古鷹級と同じですが、当初から連装砲塔を装備していたためこの部分は主砲の口径を20cmから20.3cmにボーリングし直すだけでした。青葉の改装工事は昭和12年（1937年）10月に始まり３年を費やして昭和15年（1940年）10月に完了しています。こうして青葉は第１艦隊、第６戦隊の旗艦として軍務に服し、翌昭和16年（1941年）５月には舷外電路を装着されて太平洋戦争を迎えることになります。 第６戦隊は青葉、衣笠、古鷹、加古の４艦で形成され、開戦当初より主に南洋方面に展開、ラバウル攻略作戦、ラエ、サラモア攻略作戦、ブーゲンビル島攻略作戦などを支援していますが、この間本格的な戦闘は経験していませんでした。 昭和17年（1942年）５月、珊瑚海海戦にMO攻略部隊主隊として参加するも空母祥鳳を失った後北方に避退しています。一旦呉に帰港した青葉は再度ラバウルに進出、ガダルカナル島を巡る戦いに身を投じます。昭和17年（1942年）８月の第１次ソロモン海戦に参加し、鳥 海、第６戦隊の各艦と共同して豪、米重巡洋艦４艦撃沈、１艦大破の武勲を揚げています。その直後の 10月にガダルカナル島ヘンダーソン飛行場砲撃を企図して進出した五藤少将率いる第６戦隊の旗艦青葉は、味方駆逐艦隊と誤認して待ち伏せていた米巡洋艦の 猛射を浴びて大損害を被り、艦橋を直撃した砲弾で五藤少将は重傷を負い、後に戦死してしまいます。このサボ島沖海戦で青葉を守らんとした古鷹が沈没、衣笠の奮戦でかろうじて青葉は沈没をまぬがれて生還します。 昭和17年（1942年）10月から翌２月までの約４ヶ月間の修理工事の後再びラバウルへ進出するも昭和18年（1943年）４月、メウエパセージで米軍 の航空攻撃を受けて命中弾１、至近弾多数を喰らい擱座、カビエンにて応急修理の後トラック島を経て呉廻航、昭和18年（1943年）７月から11月まで再 び約４ヶ月間の修理工事を受けます。この時21号電探、対空機銃多数を装備しています。また３番砲塔がサボ島沖海戦で被害にあって撤去、この場所には25mm連装機銃が配置されていたのをこの時の修理で復活しています。この昭和18年暮れまでに古鷹、加古、衣笠の同型艦はすべて戦没、青葉のみが生き残り、第１南遣艦隊第16戦隊に配備されてシンガポールに進出します。 この後、シンガポールとリンガ泊地との間で数度の輸送任務をこなし、さらにバリクパパン、ペナン、タラカン、ダバオ、ソロンなどボルネオやフィリピン各地との間の輸送任務をおこなっていました。こうしているうちに戦勢は日本に益々不利となり、マリアナ沖海戦でも敗北を喫した日本海軍は乾坤一擲の大勝負、捷１号作戦を発動します。 これに応じて第１遊撃隊として輸送船の護衛としてリンガ泊地を出港するのですが、マニラ湾口南西70カイリの地点で昭和19年（1944年）10月23日 敵潜水艦の雷撃を受けて航行不能に陥る被害を被ってしまい、軽巡鬼怒に曳航されてマニラに引き返すことになります。その翌日今度はマニラで米軍の空爆を受けて損傷、さらに29日にも空爆を受けたため高雄港を経由して昭和19年（1944年）12月に呉に帰港しますが、ことここに至っては修理もされず呉港外に繋留されたままとなります。 しかし、米軍が放っておく訳もなく、昭和20年（1945年）７月末の２度の空襲で艦尾が切断されて大破、着底して８月15日を迎えることになります。こうして青葉はクラス唯一太平洋戦争を生き延びたのですが昭和21年（1946年）12月には解体されてその生涯を閉じたのです。振り返ってみると戦運の少ない艦という感じがしますが、第１次ソロモン海戦の完勝で運を使い果たしてしまったのでしょうか。
