It is an artillery suit on an improved X100-series frame, flown by the Biological CPU Orga Sabnak.

What it does in the story

The Calamity is first committed to the conquest of neutral Orb, sinking battleships and destroying M1 Astrays before turning on the Freedom Gundam. With the Raider and the Forbidden it nearly overwhelms the Freedom until the Justice arrives, and the three withdraw when their medication wears off. It is finally destroyed at the Second Battle of Jachin Due by a METEOR-equipped Justice.

What makes it different

Its armour only switches on where it is hit.
Trans-Phase armour puts the Phase Shift layer behind ordinary armour, and Phase Shift only activates where the outer layer is breached. That saves power, so the suit runs longer than a first-generation GAT-X, without changing colour.

The biggest gun is in the chest.
The Scylla 580mm multi-phase energy cannon is built into the torso, the same weapon the Aegis carried. It is rated powerful enough to sink ships and discourages units from closing in.

It hovers rather than flies.
Powerful thrusters let it cross deserts and water while hovering above the surface, but it has no true flight, so it often rides on the Raider Gundam's MA mode to keep up with the trio.

It was meant to be one of three configurations.
The Rebuild 1416 Program planned Calamity units equipped along the lines of the Aile, Sword and Launcher packs.
